New member; price check

Long time lurker, ready to make jump to 911.

Looking at an 09 CPO 911 4s cab. Meteor gray over tan.

8200 miles.

Options
PDK
Nav
Heated Seats
Blue tooth
iPod
sport chrono plus

Original price $119k

They want $89k. Has had HPFP replaced; cosmetically great. Tires about 60%

What would be a reasonable price. They turned down 85. Originally they were at 91. Now at 89.

Thanks in advance

I found one at auction for $93,900. Typically you'll only find a $3-5k mark-up on this used car. Meet them half way and walk out with your new car. If you need to stay in a budget just keep looking until you find something you want for the price you're willing to pay.

That's in the ballpark considering the age, original MSRP and the CPO on it. Good, basic options that hold value. 91 I would've thought to be a little high, 89 seems something that would be fair to both parties involved. Though since you're in the Midwest, if you wait you might be able to get a little better of a price. But then again, someone else may come along by that point.

Just an FYI before I comment -- There are two different "tan" choices of interior . One is called beige and the other is natural brown (the latter is actually a beautiful full leather option ).

Based on the description I think I found the car. Interior is listed as beige , carfax looks good , also looks like it was bought/serviced/traded locally .
BUT -- it is a USED car . It is also two + years old and 89K (plus tax /tag/ fees) is a lot of money .

I feel that your offer of 85K was more than generous !!!!
In my opinion .. that 85K would have been better off in their pocket than sitting on the lot collecting dust unsold.

Why not opt for a new car ? It's two or even three (if 2012) years newer , has no miles , no rear tire wear (1100 or so to replace) , has full warranty and if you shop around in this economy a very nice discount (between 8 -12 percent depending on region/inventory/ and the car itself) is a logical request.

good luck in whatever you decide.

Thanks for the replies. I like the idea of a used one, with low miles. Let someone else eat the initial depreciation. I plan on keeping it a long time, not trading it in 2-3 years. Will probably call and up the offer a little. They have only had it for 3 wks. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't a terrible deal!

And yes, it is sand beige, not the natural brown.

Gotta chime in on this one. The market is really out of wack. Consider that some have seen 10% discounts on new 2011s, which are basically one year old used cars. If you take 10% off that car, you are at 107. The price is only $18k less than you would pay for a 2011, which is 2 years newer and brand new with a 4 year warranty. Only $9k per year??? That's ridiculous. The market is just way too strong for used cars.

Even consider that the typical residual on a 3 year lease is about 60%. That would take that car down to about $72k - and it is 3 years old as 2012's are on the lots. Also consider that there are some GTS demos kicking around for $100k.

Could be a statement that new car is a much better value. Or another statement that we are being lulled into believing that these cars are holding there value incredibly well. The reality will probably be that there will be a huge catch up in depreciation when the 991 hits and the value of the used 997 will get crushed. (Or rather brought back to reality).

Where is the value? Maybe in a turbo. At least that car is now in the 90's for an '08 and the retail was 150-160. A bit more value there, but it is 4 years old and that is maybe only 35% depreciation. Still not that fantastic.

CPO adds quite a bit to the cost of used cars. You would be better off finding your car in some of the Porsche Hotspots for a better deal (South Florida, New York, California) If your doing CPO it shouldnt make a difference fly in and drive home.

Seems a little high. 85 was a generous offer by you. Keep looking. There will be lots and lots of choices out there when the new ones arrive.

85k can put you into a 07 997.1TT. Just a thought.
Used car prices are going to be high this year because no one (dealers) was leasing in 07-08. So, there will be fewer cars turned in.

Very well said and I completely agree.

I've been looking for an 09' C4S and there are not may out there but the pricing is still way too high as you mentioned.

Dealers are sitting on 2011 cabs that can be had for a nice discount but some are still listing the 997.2's at $123K!!. Heck a new 991 C2 Cab can be had for much less than that and might be a reasonable alternative.

I also suspect pricing to come more reasonable in the next few months - which is why I am waiting. I did see one sell for $75K at auction (2009 C4S cab with 21K miles) - a price I think is more realistic.

Also agree with later post that $80K buy a nice 997TT - which is the better buy.

So then are all used prices on 911's out of whack? Looking at auto trader for 09 cabs/coupes 4s/S prices seem to be in 80's to 90s. I don't want to buy 997.1 because of engine issues and more modern electronics on 997.2 (from what I have learned on this forum).

Regardless of dealer or private sale. I know that is just the opening price. Don't want to pay too much, but I don't see better deals out there at this time (probably a bit reluctant to buy a car out of state and deal with getting back home).

Appreciate the help

997.2

Ask an independant used car guy that knows Porsches. They can buy from Auctions that retail people cant. Nothing to worry about transporting.

Haha -

That's the exact one I was looking at. Original owner traded it in at Audi dealer. Almost got on a plane to go look at it but they shipped it off to auction.

Nice car and small world!

Please post pics when you get it!

Drive it home. Trust me no better way to spend a weekend then crusing home in a new to you Porsche. I bought mine on a Wednesday in Virginia flew up Friday after work picked up the car just started driving. Was gonna spend the night somewhere but was having so much fun I ended up driving all the way back to New Orleans. Driving thru the mountains made it totally worth the drive.
