anyone saw any products on Active noise cancellation?

Wouldn't it be nice to have a quiet ride on the freeway even in during high speeds? Your music would sound much cleaner and your ride more comfortable.

anyone know about these products in 997 or any car, so we can retrofit?

if none available in market now, do you guys think, can this be a feature in future 911's ?

In all seriousness... You'll see from my signature, that I did spend some effort on my sound system. But I also made my exhaust louder! There are times when I like to hear my music and times (more common) when I want the windows down and the exhaust up! I skipped adding dynamat or other sound deadening to the car, because I don't want to silence those great engine sounds, and that stuff gets heavy fast. It's just not that kind of car.

That said, the end result on the stereo project is fairly amazing. It sounds incredible, and looks almost stock, except for the "Kenwood" on the bottom of the head unit. If you think about it, these cars strike a pretty solid balance between sportiness and drivability. There aren't too many cars you can drive comfortably to the track, thrash them all day long, and drive comfortably home.

i agree what you said. btw, I use mine as a DD, weekends spirited driving. But sometimes when i am coming back from work with lot tired and i wish i have a switch in my car to flip to nullify/reduce road noises and enjoy a quite ride home.

adding dynamat in doors will help in there?

 

The stereo guy who helped me by phone as I was working on the project told me that adding dynamat on the rear deck area makes a big difference. Under the carpet on top of the engine bay, where the bose subwoofer would go. I ended up not doing it for the reasons I mentioned, but it's something you could try. Unfortunately, it would be more permanent than a switch.

I was also told that the doors are solid enough on these cars that dynamat wouldn't do a whole lot there. I put a little bit in there when I changed speakers, mostly to kill any vibration from the bigger woofers. I don't notice a decrease in road noise. I think you'd have to add deadening to the floor pan to stop that noise.

I might suggest an Acura. The Japanese are enthusiastic about that and better at it than the Germans honestly.

But in the spirit of a Porsche, you should consider changing tires. I have found that taking the rear tires down to usual wear bars requires great tolerance for road noise. I just changed to Michelin Pilot Super Sports and they go far beyond the new tire effect. Much quieter tires than even brand new PS2's, let alone some of the other brands. More restful for my wife (who suffered a terrible stroke a couple of years ago), but also more fun for me: the performance of the MPSS tires is great.

There you go... PAG knows their current customers well. That is why the 991 is softer/quieter/refined and loses more of the 911 soul. Oh well!

 

I doubt any active noise cancellation is available specifically for the 911. I believe that would take a lot of engineering to achieve.

After my exhaust modifications I had a slight bit of resonance at a certain RPM at Highway speeds. It is gone now.

Dynamat Extreme in the right places solved the problem.

I didn't want to rip the interior out of the car nor attach this product to the metal on the underside to achieve this end.

Solution the car is covered in plastic underneath and in the wheels wells which is all very easy to remove. I added Dynamat extreme sparingly to the underside of these pieces.

Very satisfied with the results. No resonance period, less road noise, and the car is pleasant but I still hear all the required mechanical and intake and exhaust noises.

Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures.

Glued using the glue on the dynamat and a little heat from a heat gun to the inside of the wheel wells and all the plastic pieces under the cars. They all came off fairly easily.

I also used a Wall paper roller to roll down the dynamat.
