Worried about worst case flat with no spare?

I was. Not any more. I was in the middle of nowhere. No cell phone service. 35 miles from a small town with a tiny grocery store and a BBQ restaurant. Story is, driving 45-50 mph (hadn't wound it up yet) on a hill country road in TX. One of the 3-4" rocks I avoided had a friend in a shadow. It took out the front tire sidewall and damaged the rear sidewall on the same side. Front went flat. I tried the P-car repair kit. It started blowing the stuff out between the rim and tire and the hole in the sidewall. So....damn. Only choice. Drove the car 30 mph for about 40 miles. The Hankook Ventus V12 didn't let the rim get damaged and got me all the way to safety. Here are the pics of the tires after getting to the town. The sidewalls are stiff enough evidently!

Thanks guys. Hankook even has a free replacement road hazard for less than 25% tread wear. Big shout out to discounttiredirect.com for free return shipping labels and getting my new ones to me quickly. I don't think the V12's are quite as good on the track asmy old ps2's but this is exactly when the price difference pays off. Out the door for four for about 800 bucks. Now to track down another bottle of goo to replace the one I used.

I'm amazed that you could drive 40 miles to get help on a total flat....and the wheel is still round and usable.....
Nice option in a tight spot.

+1 for the Hankook Ventus. I've put about 3000 miles on mine and they are a fine tire. Not a premier brand, but a great "value" tire for sure. I'm onto my winter set now for the colder season. Glad to hear you got to safety without the spare, that could have been a LLLLOOOONNNNGGGG walk for sure.

glad you avoided a bigger problem. I guess within 5 years or so, no manufacturer will provide spares.

I had Hankook's on a C6 Corvette and loved them. Price made it possible to buy 2 sets of Hankook's to one of the run flat OEM's. Glad to hear they are so rugged, and glad you didn't hurt your car.

Are spare tires going the way of the manual transmission?

Could be! I was shocked that the tire held up for that long with no damage and didn't let my rim touch. Those pics are after they were removed. Tire technology is pretty cool. I'm not worried about a flat any more. The goo would've easily fixed a small hole in the tread. It almost filled the one in the sidewall.
