997 radiator grills

When I first heard of radiator grills for the 911 I thought cosmetics, then I saw the inside of my radiator openings.

There was a crumpled up cigarette pack, leaves, sticks, rocks and all sorts of unwanted debris, so I took the vacuum and cleaned both sides and now I'm off to order the 2 side grills.

I never realized that the opening was so accommodating to road garbage. SO, when you are cleaning your car, I suggest you get a flashlight and look into those openings and see what is lurking in the corners. Unless of course you already have those openings screened off.

I installed a set of homemade screens shortly after I got my '09 Carrera S. The screens have stopped a variety of radiator "missiles". Too bad Porsche doesn't recognize the vulnerability of the front radiators to damage from road debris and have screens already installed similar to the the GT3 variants.

Could you post some pics? What material did you use? I've been trying to come up with a way to protect my radiators.
Thanks

I realize it now and will pay more attention until the screens arrive.

Do the Zunsport Grilles fit a 997.2? I sent them a note but wondering if there's any experience here.

I was thinking about ordering the Rennline ones, but wouldn't mind NOT having to remove the front bumper cover. Not sure if either design is more stable than the other either.

Yeah, that's what I saw. Keeping my fingers crossed...otherwise I see an afternoon project coming up (Rennline)...instead of an hour-long project (Zunsport).

Thanks
I'll try some pics later, but here's what I did in the meanwhile. I found some 1/4" mesh wire at Lowe's Home Improvement and measured the outside dimensions of the side radiator openings and added about an inch height and width to have some overlap to make the attachment with. I cut them to the general shape and then gently rolled them into a tube to be able to pass them through the center opening. I was careful as I could be in doing this in order to not scratch anything as they went in. Can't say I saved any skin doing this as my hands looked like I was on the losing end of a cat fight. However once I had them situated behind the openings I unrolled and flattened them as much as I could in the tight space I had to work with. Then I used a 2-part epoxy stick sold at most hardware stores that you simply cut off a piece and mold the two parts together until it is a uniform color and used it to hold the screen in place in several areas around the opening of the intake. once that was done I use a very small cable tie just underneath the center bar to secure the center of the screen and make the screen lay as flush to the opening as possible. You cannot see any of this from the outside (you can probably see the tie if you get on your hands and knees). I probably could have used a smaller size wire than the 1/4" I used, and if I had looked a little harder I probably could have found some stainless steel mesh wire which would have looked a little better, but I am happy with what I have on there now and will keep it until someone comes up with a 997.2 screen kit.

Rennline makes a version suitable for 997.2, but requires removal of the bumper cover for installation:

Black Friday 10% off. Although, I saw an add in one of my Porsche magazines showing a 15% discount planned for December.

I installed the FVD front grills...they are well made, very sturdy...grill wire is sturdier than other grills I've seen and Rhonda at FVD is a gem to deal with.

Do these require front bumper cover removal? I'm looking at them online and can't quite tell. I assume installation is much easier with the bumper removed though.

The FVD and Rennline both require the removal of the bumper cover.
