Hey everyone,
Happy Holiday!
I’m thinking of DIY SSK on my 06 c4s. Some people recommend disconnecting battery. If I disconnect battery, does my radio reset itself? I bought the car without any manual so I don’t have any radio (Bose) code or any other info. I’m afraid to disconnect and finds out my radio requires code to play. I search the forums but couldn’t find any answers.

Thanks!

Since '03 Porsche has used the MOST fiber optic system in sound system set up thus eliminating a need for radio codes [on basic battery disconnects, etc.]. All components in the authorized fiber optic loop electronically "shake hands" with one another.

Congrats on your SSK which I know you will really like! If it's the OEM [complete assembly] you'll have no problem DIY with just some basic tools. To that extent, you don't even need to disconnect the battery doing so.

Good luck

You may lose your preset radio stations on a battery disconnect but no radio code to worry about.

really??? I was going to install brand new system (replace just head unit not the whole sound system) if it requires to put code in it.

anyways, I might not have to disconnect the battery in order to install OEM SSK after all.

thanks for your reply and happy holiday!

Hey Drive2006c4s, i'm hoping to buy the SSK in the next few days as well. which instructions did you use? i found a few docs (mostly for 996) here:

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...stall-diy.html

but haven't found a dedicated SSK DIY w/pictures. perhaps one/both of us can write one up for the board?

Documenting install for the board is always helpful or you can use the B&M SSK install directions which have pix, etc. However, since you'll have the whole assembly, you can skip steps 23-30 or so and they denote variances b/w 9x6 and 9x7 series.

Download B&M SSK Install Instructions Here

Only suggestion I have is to go for a drive and shift through all the gears before reinstalling the rear console.

Good luck
