Senna..The Movie
Regarding Prost in Japan, I'm not sure, seemed like Senna may have legimately taken a gap that Prost shouldn't have created in the first place?
I agree with your thoughts on what killed these guys. Too big and sudden a change to be making in a competitive setting. Plus, it seemed like Senna's car just wasn't set up right.
Can't get this movie out of my mind. Watching it made me feel really connected with Senna, so watching him die at the end was hauntingly tragic.

In addition to the movie, there was an hour long show on Discovery, or one of the other cable channels a few years ago that dissected the F1 cars of the time and did a forensic analysis of the physics and engineering of Senna's crash. I can't remember exactly the conclusions but the take home point was that the crash didn't have to happen. If there's a plus side, those cars are incredibly safer today than they were 20 or 30 years. (Schumi, back in his heyday, had the chance to drive one of the old monster mega HP Ferrari F1 Turbos and his quote, after turning a few laps, was something to the effect, "that it was a scary experience".)

Sorry for not being more helpful.
It's driving me crazy trying to remember the name. I vividly remember watching the show. I think it was called Anatomy of a Crash (on Discovery) and there was about a 20 minute segment on the Senna and Ratzenberger (sp?) crashes at Imola. Much like plane crashes, it wasn't one but multiple failures and circumstances that caused the crash. If my Swiss cheese brain recalls, it was a steering failure, suspension un-loading, speed and layout of the track at that particular point that were the contributing factors and that even had Senna wanted to try and steer away from the wall he would not have been able to do so. A split second earlier or later and he'd have gone on to whatever glory he could have secured. Terribly sad.
Sorry for not being more helpful.

Now I have to figure out where to find it.
I've been a Senna fan for a long-time (a big driver, no pun intended, in my decision to own an NSX) and I was really bummed that I didn't see this film in the theatres (limited release and the realities of having a newborn precluded me from getting to the movies).
I was able to watch in last week in two parts. BRILLIANT film. Just brilliant.
I highly recommend it whether you like motorsport or not... it's just a great human story.
Big mahalo nui loa to the OP for letting me know this was on Netflix!
