diconnecting the battery

i am going to disconnect the battery for about a month while away, no access to electricity for trickle charge, so, any advice? its in a secure garage so i figure i will leave the frunk unsecured for access to the battery when i get back, or is there another way to lock and unlock ?, tia, kk

If your battery is in good condition and charged when you last park your car, 1 month should not deplete it. For minimum depletion, leave your car unlocked. If you must lock it, do so by rotating the key in the passenger door lock (not the remote lock).

and when i leave the battery connected the clock and whatever other sources are using power won't take it down? my 996tt(2002) would drain the battery in maybe 5 days, i don't know if it had other issues, since i only owned it for 6 months, but i heard from many on the forum that these are notorious for this behavior..., hmmmm, you can see that i am not convinced that it will make it, anyone else have an idea, thanks, adias

I too would be worried about 30 days without charging. If you're going to disconnect why not take the battery to the house and hook it up to a battery maintainer.

Well all good ideas have their drawbacks...I should have mentioned be careful lifting it out - it weighs 40 pounds and it's in an awkward location to lift - be careful of your back.

I routinely leave mine parked at the airport for 2-3 weeks at a shotand I've never had a dead battery upon return even in the winter. When I know I will be gone for 3 weeks I use the trick previously mentioned of locking the car manually and not with the remote button. I think this deactivates the alarm and maybe a few other things. The area I park in is secure so theft isn't a concern for me there.

If you disconnect, DO NOT CLOSE YOUR HOOD, leave it ajar and be sure roll your windows down a 0.5-1.0" as well. Ask me how I know, read the link below:

after 10 days the remote doesn't work and will require manual door unlock. this is to save power.

although it will start after a month, i'd not do it often if you want to keep the battery for long. batteries last longer when staying charged.

Is it possible in your situation to install a Deep Cycle battery in the car while your away? The battery is used in boats and sit all winter while holding a charge.... six months of storage outside and the boat motor cranks over and starts every time. Could you piggy back the battery right onto the Porsche battery with a set of cables?

and as Adias suggested... thirty days is not a long time to store a car-even outside...

LOL, I was just about to post this same thing. I read through your post, great write on your ECU.

I figured the trunk release is electrically powered. I just leave the trunk ajar.
