wondering about my IMS
wondering about my IMS
i hadn't really thought about it, my build date is june 8, 2007, but i only have 16000 km's on the car...should i be worried about the bearing with the low miles? i am sure it has the stronger/bigger bearing, but will it still be at risk?
I've only heard of IMS failure in early 2005 models I haven't heard of it in a 2007. Porsche changed the design of the IMS bearings, I believe in mid 2005 with a a single row of larger bearings. These bearings cannot be replaced without breaking down the block. I have not heard of any IMS problems with the new design. You should be good!
I went to see my Indy yesterday to get an oil service and have him fix my passenger seat. I once again talked about the IMS retrofit and he wouldn't tell me flat out not to do it, but he again said that this entire thing is overblown and that he's called around the service departments all over the surrounding counties and these are very, very rare, even on 2005s. He cut apart my oil filter and, once again, there was nothing suspicious in there and I went ahead and had an oil sample taken to send in for oil analysis.
I still will probably do the retrofit when I replace my clutch, but he once again reminded me that I need to quit acting like I'm driving a time bomb.

Have you read this? Most complete overview on the topic I've found.
