Finally...a visor-mounted Bluetooth that works
Finally...a visor-mounted Bluetooth that works
Over the last five years I've tried four different visor-mounts: two Motorolas and two Blueants. All were passable, but did not pass the "call my wife from the car" test. Recently, I installed and returned an iTronics (aka Mobridge) unit - not well integrated enough for the amount they were charging. [Still haven't received my credit (and they seem to be out of business), but that's another Oprah]. Enter the Jabra Freeway. About double the price of the others, but it passes the wife test. Do your own research, but I think that it's the best clip-on out there.

Good to know as I've been thinking about getting one. How does it do surround-sound music? Is it playing from the music loaded on the phone? I read the listing but didn't see if it works with iPhone. Do you know? Thanks for the heads-up.
I've run through several of these myself without success. The FM modulator never works because I live in a crowded city, and most don't have the speaker volume to work over traffic. This does seem to have a nice speaker setup, but some people seem to complain online about poor microphone quality. Doesn't sound like that's been your experience.
That's great Mark, but this is specifically about the Jabra. Not the Tooki. I'd love to hear about the Tooki in a separate thread. Thanks.
I had an older Jabra in my Tacoma before and it worked pretty good.
I'd be curious to know how this new one works...

The FM feature is somewhat challenged by the large city (Phoenix Metro - despite my oldish Colorado handle) that I live in as well, but the three speaker setup of the the unit itself is quite loud - to the extent that I need to turn it down sometimes. The outgoing voice to the called party seems to be actually clearer that the incoming voice. That (outgoing quality) is something that always lacked in the other units. In any case, buy one at your local Best Buy, try it for a week, and return it if necessary. It attaches neatly on the left side of the drivers visor, with the clip just adjacent to, but not touching the vanity mirror cover. The other neat feature is that you can answer incoming calls completely handsfree by saying "answer". Finally, it is motion-sensitive, so you leave it turned on and it switches itself into sleep mode when you leave and reactivates when you reenter the car. Other units must be turned on/off manually. I'm the CFO of a large food bank with 75 trucks. We are going to outfit all of our drivers with them to comply with the new Interstate handsfree law ($10K+ fine to the employer) that goes into effect 1/1/2013.

Yes, I'm using the iPhone with it. It either plays through the unit itself (not great) or the FM modulator (great if you hook up with a non-contentious station)
I've got a Blackberry VM605 that works pretty well, and the FM transmitter is strong enough to overwhelm any local stations most of the time. It's battery is fantastic as well. For $40 it was a steal.

Yes thanks Rick. At the online price of 79.00 (and up), I wouldn't return something. It's just trial and error. Is it loud enough to hear with the top down ( assuming Cab. Of course).
