Hello Everybody

For those that answered my first thread with the Dead Battery, well, one week not using the car and the battery is dead again.

I will replace it but not sure what to do.

The car has an extended guarantee where says that all jobs in the car must be done by an autorized Porsche dealer. I am planning to buy the battery in a Porsche dealer and to install by myself, and I am not sure if this could avoid the guaranty. Have anybody experienced something similar?

The replacement battery is dead or the orignal battery died again? If it's the orignal battery then it's probably bad if it won't hold a charge for a week. If it's a replacement battery then I'd be worried about some parasitic electric draw like radar detector, interior lights, etc. If you're going to the shop have them check for that plus the alternator.

 

What year is your car, if it's an 05/06 it's most likely the alternator cable or as posted above you have something draining the battery.

 

No, I never changed the battery, I have charged it and was good while was not cold. These days the temperature dropped below zero and not using the car for a week was enough to get it drain again.
I check it age, it is from 04-08. So is time to replace it.
Tomorrow I will call the Dealer to see what they have to say. The car is from May 2006

 

Time for a new battery.

 

And replacing the battery is an easy DIY.
I am not at all mechanically inclined and I replaced my battery in 30 minutes.

 

I have an 07 GT3RS in need of a new battery (goes dead within 3 or 4 days of non-use. The Odessey and Deka batteries are not the correct size to take advantage of the OEM 3-available-positions hold down clamp spots. Am I wasting my time trying to locate a top-quality battery, and should just settle for whatever fits correctly? Thanks for your help.

 

I got mine at Walmart. Fits perfect and works just fine

 

Thanks for the advise. Is it a conventional lead-acid battery? Did it fit the OEM hold down clamps? What group size was it? Thanks again.

Fit the OEM hold down clamps perfect and only cost $110

Looks like others have had good results with Interstate batteries as well

 

Thanks again, did you have any problems disconnecting the battery, or did you have a trickle charger hooked up to keep voltage to the computers and stereo?

 

Have you checked places like Rennline? They carry battery adapter kits so you can use the smaller batteries in the OEM position. Makes a nice upgrade...nice aluminum bracket and red/orange lightweight battery. Installs in seconds. My battery will hit 5 years old this year and this is exactly what I'll be doing.

Everstart, Interstate, Duralast and many other brands all made by one manufacturer - Johnson Controls - just different distributor networks...and all have a better warranty than Porsche OEM. Can't go wrong with any of them

 

+1 did mine in about 20 minutes.
I called the dealer on 09c2s and they said that the life expectancy on my battery had been reached. I did not want to drive the car with a bad cell (alternator damage?) and I was not flat bedding the car for a dead battery. Told dealer I was going to do it myself (still under warranty) he said have at it, noted time date and name and off to Walmart I went. I honestly believe the PDK shifts much better with the new battery although I have been poo pooed on that idea by others with better mechanical sense. My battery life was extended by a maintainer. I wish I would have just replaced it months ago.
