I went with a 1 3/4 pipe. It sounds incredible. What a difference.

Did you have to jack the car up on stands? Or take off the rear bumper. I really wanted to do the Gundo hack when I bought my car, but got worried about having to take it all apart...

I let the shop take the cans off, do the hack and put them back on. Took a little over 2 1/2 hours and cost me $200.

I took the cans off myself, very easy, took me about 45min. You will have to remove the rear bumper to get to the can, I jacked up the car so I have more room to work with; although I believe you can do without. Follow these instrustions (http://www.renntech.org/forums/tutor...-bypass-pipes/) the 996 and 997 removal is identical.

Yes you will need to jack the car up. I used the screw type floor jack because I think it is safer than the hydraulic unless you plan to use a stand in conjunction, then either would be fine. Bumper removal is absolutely not necessary. Some members chose to remove it for easier access. I did it with the bumper on the car with no problems.

Went and got my cans hacked this week - oh, wow, what a difference in sound!! Just love it. Wifey, not so much. I still told her it sounds like sweet music. Barely noticeable with cruising speeds and revs and the windows / sunroof up. But give it more throttle or get past 4k RPM and wowwow - PSE sound without PSE price! And with the windows / sunroof open, I can enjoy the sounds at all RPMs. Best return for the $$$ mod I've done so far.

Thanks again BLKonBLK for the referral.

Here's a pic of the weld:

It's certainly the best $200 you can spend on a Carrera.

How would the sound compare to buying the sharkwerks muffler bypass for 600$?

A muffler bypass is going to be a lot louder, and (to some including me) too obnoxious. Plus the "hack" sounds about $400 better.
