During a track day a few days ago, I did the dreaded "money shift", shifting from 4th to 3rd gear at 120 mph, rather than shifting to 5th. This was during my second session. I completed that lap and did one more, then came in. I went out for a few more sessions afterwards, and everything was normal. I have driven the car over 100 miles since this occurred, and have gotten no CELs, or noticed anything out of the ordinary from the engine. I was extremely worried I screwed something up right after this occurred, but since nothing has happened since I've relaxed a little. I just wanted to post up here and get any advice on what I should do now, if there is anything I can do, to reduce the chance of getting any further engine damage? The car is still under warrantee, so I don't really want to inform the dealer of what happened, however I'm sure they would be able to pick it up from a DME scan. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I think you will be fine, it will be on your dme scan and hopefully that will be all. I doubt major damage happened, that would have been obvious sooner. Maybe I am wring but I think you have known by now.
I did it once also...the instructors comm unit was next to the gear box and when I shifted my hand felt the box and it messed up my shift. It happens. That was two years ago and no problems at all.

If you bent a valve you'd know immediately, so I wouldn't worry about it, maybe check the pulley (remember that guy with the loose pulley)
I'd also probably go to my local indy out of curiosity and run the DME to see how bad it was, just for kicks.

I do have a SSK, I don't really care about the way it "looks" on my DME scan, as long as nothing is messed up, bc i also plan on keeping the car for a very long time. The main thing that had me concerned was that thread where the guy had 20k miles and needed a new engine.
i think it's probably safe to say that if you had indeed did a "money shift", you would have known immediately by the large amounts of smoke, oil, and engine parts all over the track. i.e. consensus seems to be that if that doesnt happen right away, chances are that all is well and good and your engine survived unscathed.
in either case, if i were you i'd pull the DME just to see what kind of over-revs you hit, as well as change your oil/send it out for analysis. no matter the results, neither will guarantee your engine did not suffer damage, but they will hopefully give you peace of mind that the incident wasnt as serious as you thought.

but i bet you'll be using a "back handed" grip from now on when going from 3-4, eh? i've been using it ever since my 1st DE when i went from 3-2 down the main straight at 85mph (but thankfully no damage!).
FYI - had my oil changed at Porsche today, I told them about the incident and had them run a DME scan, I had 213 ignitions in range 5. The oil however looked normal, and there was no metal shavings in it or the filter, so hopefully it's gonna be alright. I've driven about 1000 miles since it happened, so I think everything is ok.
