Smashed headers-am I the only one?

Long story short. I am normally extremely careful with steep driveway entry/exits. When I first got my 09 C2S with SPASM (-20 mm) I accidentally nicked one header on a speed bump. Then, 1 week later a sharp hair pin on a mountain road here in Colorado nailed my front spoiler on the right side (switchback road). Since then, I have been very careful, until an early morning drive with my daughters. AT MY OWN HOUSE!! Both headers, where Porsche has them flattened for clearance, have big dents in them. One the size of a half golf ball. Anyway.....what to do now? Could they be repaired? Say the flat area cut out, pounded flat and re-welded? New OEM ones are 1500 each. After market ones are not much cheaper. Any thoughts?

No issues here after three Colorado Porsches.

If it is really bad you could try a take on one of the body shop repairs. Weld a stud to the area with the dent. I'd use a threaded 304 stud/bolt and 308L wire. Make sure you have a provision for attaching the slap hammer. Then heat the area and while hot pull the dent with a slap hammer. If you tell a good body shop what you want to do they can most likely help solve your problem.

On another thought the dent amy not be that big of an issue. If you look at the total picture the exhaust systems on our cars don't have uniform cross sections.

Good luck.

Here is a picture of the left one. My driveway has a 4 foot flat spot at the bottom , then a severe curbing. When leaving at an angle, no problem, but when leaving straight out, the front wheels rise with the street, and the rear bottoms out as the rear wheels drop onto the street. The oil pan took a small scrape, and the curb part equally dented the headers(which are right behind the wheels). What a mess!!

Sucks, but the motor is pretty low on our cars... one of the reasons I want to add the skid plate to help protect the motor.

I bought these...and still take the driveway at an angle - no scrapes front or rear.

Reading this it sounds as if you already solved your problem - don't leave straight out. Also, I've found that selecting "Sport" tightens up the shock compression and rebound and makes scrapping less likely.

+1 on this. I have a GT# which is even lower, and stiffening the suspension seems to make the driveway exit a little more reliable.

leave it alone - no impact on the car's perfromance. The only one that's going to be bothered by it is you and only because you know its there.
