Pioneer AVIC

I've read through a bunch of threads on this subject, but I'm still slightly in the dark.

I have an 06 with the standard stereo and PCM 2, not the Bose or the upgraded package. I'm interested in upgrading to the Pioneer head unit, and I have seen the kit from euromotorspeed.com which seems to indicate you can just remove the PCM, plug the Pioneer into the harness, connect a few wires, install his bezel and you are good to go with the stock amp and speakers. True?

What I'm also not clear about is whether you use the onboard computer functionality in the tach window ... I realize you won't get the navigation prompts, but what about the fuel range and so forth?

Also, if you are removing the PCM, is there any value to selling the factory setup? Mine has navigation, so I would guess someone could upgrade if they wanted to ... not that it's that great a navigation setup, but probably has value if someone's PCM goes bad and they want a replacement.

Thanks!

Goldduster is infamous around these parts
I did this with my 2004 996. Had Bose so needed to add new amp also. Whatever you do, don't do it without the Eurospeed kit, it also keeps the OEM look. I would recommend calling Loi at Eurospeed, very nice guy and he will give you a wealth of info and advice!

prove me wrong but with any non-porsche unit you will loose all data it gets/sends from/to ECU - trip computer, custom settings, time, etc.
from what i understand pioneer unit does not communicate with car at all.

MPG, miles to empty, etc, gets displayed on the center tach. You will lose what you see on the PCM, not on the Tach...

I replaced my PCM. I can confirm that everything works. I can still control the sports chrono stopwatch from the stalk. The only thing I don't have is nav prompts in the gauge cluster, or any of the PCM functions.

Were they able to save the radio controls from the steering wheel? Volume, etc.

I've got a C2S with the sport steering wheel - no controls. I believe you can adapt to factory controls though with a small module.

I have heard that as well about the steering wheel controls.

What are the other PCM functions that you lose? My car doesn't have the sports chrono package.

I did hear that as long as you have it all set like you want it when you remove the PCM, it stays that way. Not sure what happens if you have to change the battery at some point, though.
