I also have a couple questions about the SSK.

1. I don't track (well, not yet so far) my car, will the SSK make a huge different on my DD?

2. How much does it cost to install? (the part itself doesn't seem expensive) Will a porsche dealer be willing to do the installation if the part (still a Porsche OEM part) isn't purchased from them?

To OP: My apology to have question asked in your thread. I thought about starting a new post myself, but maybe this way we can save some web resource.

I had the dealer install an ssk on my 4s it code $283, I purchased it from suncoast it was still in box and the dealer had no issues doing the install along with a gt3 shift **** and boot. As for the difference it definitely feels shorter and more positive with the throws. It not a completely radical change in shift feel. It just removes some slop and improves on what was a pretty good shifter and makes it better. I'm cowering as I say this but my s2000 had a better shift feel IMO

Don't. I had an S2K bought new in 2005 that I drove as a weekend toy for almost 7 years. The shifter on that car is amazing. Super short throws, positive engagement, fantastic.

By comparison, I find the 997.2 throws to be very smooth, but long, and less positive feeling. Very good, but not as good as the S2K.

The SSK is on my to-do list for sure.

I got the AP soild linkage from Dan at Vividracing. Good piece of upgrade while installing the SSK. See the photos between the oem plastic piece and the AP soild piece. No problem during and after install. Easy to tighen with allen key if it get loose.

Ugh, just called local dealer, $950 installed! That seems like 3hrs at least of labor based on price of about $450 for the part. Hm.
