Trading in base 997.1 for 997.1S or 997.2S?
Trading in base 997.1 for 997.1S or 997.2S?
Hey all ... wondering if anyone has done this before and can speak to some of the logistics?
In my case, the tricky part is that I want to go from a Targa 4 to a Targa 4S, so the supply is rare to begin with. I also would like to trade in-state so that I only need to pay tax on the difference. Would a dealer be able to move a car in another state to the local lot and then do the trade-in?
What's prompting this is that I want to personalize some more bits on the car and figure I should upgrade the car first. In particular, I really want PASM and full leather, in addition to better wheels (aka not lobster forks).
There isn't much danger of me wanting to upgrade to the 991 as I don't feel the car really needs to be any bigger than it is already. Also, I'm not necessarily sold on needing 997.2 vs 997.1 as I'm going for manual and don't feel there's much of a difference otherwise. But correct me if I'm wrong.
Any insight appreciated, thanks!

Any reason why you're not holding off and saving for a GT3? That's my next jump, as the 997.2 vs. 997.1 seems marginal. Plus I'd be concerned about carbon build up with the DFI engine on the 997.2.
Agreed

Have a Boxster for a track toy ... GT3 is too much commitment for me.
Fine with a comfortable performance car on the street.
My other question, which may not have been clear, is just how dealers handle finding a used car for you and bringing it in from another dealer. Do they do this? How does it work?
I would probably replace the nav regardless. Part of the reason I haven't upgraded my current car since I think I might trade out of it. Or I would use the new iphone built in nav.

Unless you have some good friends w/ a dealer license, you're going to have a tough time convincing one to do what you want w/o them having skin in it. You can try and have them locate a car for you but I highly doubt they'll let you locate and then have them pull it. Remember, they buy on wholesale and sell at retail. Should you find someone willing... think along the lines of a minimum of $1,500 or +2% (or more) service charge on top of whatever price you negotiate.
Double check your state b/c in mine (and w/ most who don't have an annual ad valorem tax on vehicles) as long as bill of sale shows a trade-in value of your car against the new one to you, you only pay sales tax on net difference. Some "tax cooperating" states will collect the tax at time of sale (or you get credit for what was paid when registering vehicles). Others do not collect it at all for other states and you will pay home state sales tax when you try and register vehicle.
Good luck
