Ashtray, sunroof and keyless entry questions

I have been spending the last 30days looking and listening to everything on my new car and have a few questions to small items I couldn't find answers to. Any info is appreciated.

1: is the ashtray lid supposed to be spring loaded? I remember with my 986S it was and in the 997.2S I have to manually open and close it. I removed it and apsaw a spring but it does not appear to do anything, do I just need to rematch it somehow?

2: I know the passenger window one-touch up only works at 1/2 way closed (weird but normal) but is the sunroof supposed to have one touch close?

3: with my 986 I remember being able to lower the windows with my key, either In the door and turning to the unlock position or by holding the unlock button on the remote. This does not seem to function on the 997, is this normal?

Thanks!

1. If you open the ashtray lid 2/3 of the way, it will snap fully open. Likewise, if you close it 2/3 of the way, it will snap shut.

2. If you press and hold the sun roof open button, the sun roof will open 4/5 of the way. If you press and hold the sunroof open button a second time, it will open completely. The 4/5 opening is to help prevent wind buffeting and wind noise in the cabin. When fully open, if you press and hold the sun roof close button, it will close all the way, with stopping.

3. I believe your dealer can program your car to open the windows if you press and hold your key button. Otherwise there is an after-market product available called RemoteKey that lets you do that, amongst other things, like chirping the horn when the car is locked. I havent tried it myself... http://www.mods4cars.com/sms/shop/in...roducts&cat=15

Correction on the sunroof... instead of pressing and holding, all you need is a quick touch.

Interesting... While opening, if I release the button, the sunroof stops, so I do have to press-and-hold. Are you talking about the close operation? If so, I'll double check that.

Check the owner's manual - one touch open/close of the sunroof is discussed there. you can find it in the index under "lifting/sliding roof". The switch is sensitive so you have to practice the "one-touch".
