Tubi Quality issue????
So to the OP, champion did all this for you free of charge on a second hand exhaust and you never cared to update the thread thanking them for what they did and standing behind their product?
All this after making a thread that makes people doubt tubi? at least you could have posted that the shop helped you fix a used a exhuast you didn't even but from them for FREE!

Tom
I sent my exhaust down to Champion and they welded the crack no charge. I never saw what the weld looked like as my Indy shop put it back on the car while I was out of town, but I will tell you the soundtrack is back to the way it was pre-crack...just hoping it lasts. Good luck!

I did speak to mb230s about his issue just a few moments ago on the phone before noticing that this thread was alive again. And although he's the 3rd owner of the car and the serial number on his exhaust indicates that it was purchased prior to 2007 before we were the official NA importer of Tubi, I made him the same offer as everyone else....we'll fix the exhaust, free of charge to him.
Here's an inside look at the Tubi manufacturing facility that'll give you a better idea of what the company is all about as well as some of the technology used to make their exhaust systems.

Thanks Tom - was just logging in to update.
Tom/Champion was very helpful and offered to weld the exhaust right away. I may try to get it done locally via a buddy with a business that does a lot of SS welding just b/c I can have it out/fixed/back in same day. If he has any issues doing it - I'll send it down to Champion.

Tarek307 - updating this thread was not on my list of priorities, but I can tell you that I'm not bragging about what Champion did for me. I had to pay to remove this "high end" exhaust, pay to ship it to and from Champion and pay to put it back on. Highlighting the fact that I got a cracked exhaust welded at no cost is not MY definition of standing behind a product. I hope that the weld lasts (been back on since Labor Day, so about 5k miles), but I would have never purchased Tubi (new or used) if I knew that it was prone to cracking like this...
If I may, I'd like to say that there is no quality issues with the Tubi product. Each exhaust is hand made and goes through a very strict quality control process. Since the 997 was introduced, our inventory system shows that we have sold literally over 350 complete 997 exhaust systems to customers around the world. Here we have 3 out of those 350 that have had issues. I hardly think this is any indication of an quality control issue. Exhausts sit underneath the back of the car, they get hot and they get cold, and they're subject to all kinds of abuse that we can't possibly realize from sitting in the driver's seat. Once in a while, an issue like this might creep up. It is extremely rare, but even still, we do anything within reason to stand behind the product.
Here we have 3 examples on one of the many Porsche forums. What I don't know is how many others out there with Tubi's have cracks as well and may not even know it or haven't publicly mentioned it on a forum.
I'm sorry Tom, but from this consumers standpoint, you're not standing behind your product and that forces me to go to another vendor. Simply welding it back together is a band-aid fix. Others may disagree, but that's my point of view.
If it's really as rare as you say and once in awhile might creep up...then why not offer a better warranty on your product and/or get these 3 guys new systems? Especially considering it's cost. As folks have mentioned, other companies are offering lifetime warranties on their SS exhaust systems.

I'm sorry that you feel we're not standing behind the product, but all things considered I think we've gone out of our way to help each of these guys by offering a free repair.
Tubi is internationally recognized as a premier exhaust manufacturer. So much so that they are even the OEM manufacturer for several exhaust components on a few new Ferrari and Maserati models. These 100's of 997 exhausts are just a small part of what they do. Consider the literally 10's of 1000's of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi, Maserati, and Aston exhausts that they manufacturer for cars dating back to the 1960's and I think a few issues like this are totally to be expected. I also feel that we handled each one of these situations in the best possible manner for the customers, or current owners I should say.
The thing that bothers me is that no one has found the core reason for the failure. If they have I have't read about it in this forum. To me, from what I have observed in this thread, it looks like a materials issue. And that could get blurred by whether Tubi purchases coil or sheet stock and which grade 304 they use.
With a failure rate of 3 in 350 that would equate to 8571 ppm or .9%. In today's manufacturing world that is off the charts. But keep in mind this is really a small cross section of systems. Surely the manufacturer knows how many have failed and the root cause. It would't take more than a chemistry check and a micro through the weld and heat affected zone near a failed area to determine if there is an IGA, Inter Granular Attack, problem.
I purchased a used Tubi from Tom and put an additional 12,000 mi. on it with no problems. It is now living in Canada. I was very happy with the service I received from Tom.
If you are going to another manufacturer/vendor ask them which grade 304 they are using.
You can keep putting air in a flat tire or you can fix the problem.

.... some of you people are just plain unreasonable! Tom you shouldn't have done a thing for this guy!
The least a GENTLEMAN would do, is after the shop went out of their way to help them by fixing a USED exhaust you bought, is to leave them some good feedback on here after making such a thread..but again...thats what a GENTLEMAN would do!
So i dont know why you are arguing- Thats like me buying a USED iphone from who knows who out of warranty & apple offering to fix it for FREE for me free but i complain that i have to pay them for the shipping...unreasonable.... unappreciative & selfish is what comes to mind!

A great point in my humble opinion. A serious PITA is an understatement when describing a situation like this one, and it's also not w/o significant additional expense $$$, and time wasted when it could have been spent enjoying the car. From a casual observers perspective, Tubi Style may not be the choice for a person who wants a bulletproof aftermarket exhaust. That said, I'll give them high marks for making their exhausts all shiny and sparkly though (not than anyone can see when it's on the car)! They're pretty. Much prettier than my Sharkwerks/Fister Mod exhaust, but damn if my car doesn't sound amazing. For $1000, too.
