Drooping exhaust pipe….

I recently had the Rear Main Seal (RMS) changed at a major dealership here in Los Angeles. Tonight, my wife noticed that the right exhaust pipes were about 2 inches lower than the left as she was walking up to get into the car. Everything seems to be tightly bolted in place, but could this be the result of the RMS work? And is it a fairly easy fix?

Thanks in advance!

I also just had a new water pump installed by the same dealership.......... is that more likely to make the exhaust crooked? I guess what I'm asking is, have either the water pump or the RMS contributed to this weird exhaust pipe line up?

Somethin ain't right. Hopefully it's just the tech not re-mounting your mufflers correctly and just needs an adjustment. Off hand I can't say if either the water pump or the RMS work required dropping the engine a bit - if so, I would guess they'd have to disconnect the exhaust??

It's pretty easy to check whether the exhaust is bolted up. I'd make sure your motor mount is bolted up. I had this happen because the motor mount wasn't tightened and the whole engine was actually drooping, but the exhaust is where you see it easiest.

It looks like exhaust tips on the right are dropped a bit. You can adjust tips individually. There is a one bolt which when loosen will let you adjust an angle. Easy to do but if your dealership is not to far might be worth it to let them deal with that and at the same time make sure that everything is mounted correctly.

They did a sloppy job of reinstalling your exhaust tips. Return it and have them install tips to factory specs per PIWIS measurens.

Adjusting the tips will not fix this. The exhaust system needs to be realigned. I had the same issue when I purchased the PSE and the dealer tried to deliver the car to me without adjusting it correctly. They finally fixed it but it took several hours of work. I will never take my car back to that dealer again as it was just one of several issues induced by the dealer. Then they asked me to give them a perfect score on the phone survey. Really?

So, basically I should just tell them to realign the exhaust? I don't think that there is anyway they could hold me responsible. This must be a byproduct of the recent work done on the car by them.

Yes, be prepared to stick your ground and tell them it wasn't like this before you brought your vehicle in. It's around 3 to 4 hours of work to do the job correctly. Be careful they may try to adjust the exhaust tips and call it a day but that will not fix what is shown in the photo.

If you have prior photos to show them what it looked like before it may help if they start back pedaling.
