Saw this 2006 997, Green/Tan, 32K mi, stick, Nav, Bose, and that's about it. Definitely not a garage queen. Looks good from a distance, but some small scratches and nicks on closer inspection. Brake handle, stick shift ****, and steering wheel all a bit worn. A tiny cut in the leather of the passenger seat. Curb rash on a couple of the wheels. Maintenance done at the local P dealer, but minimum required (e.g. no 4000 mi oil changes). Here is the big thing - car was in an accident a few years ago, and the drivers side rocker panel was repaired, and door replaced. The repairs look pretty good to the layman.

What do you guys think this car is worth?

KBB (fair condition):

Private Party: $44K
Trade-In: $41K

These numbers don't factor in the accident though, and are therefore way too high. I'd like to know what the real world price would be for a car like this, in the condition that I mentioned, and given the accident history.

Given the accident, I would say around $38K.

There are too many cars like this : Looks good from afar, but far from good. With so many strikes against it, the other buyers would have the same reservations too. Green is unique, you'd have the same difficult time selling it when that time comes. $35-38k tops.

I doubt they will part with this for less than the mid 40 k range, and honestly I bet dealers would be asking low 50s. To the guys who put mid 30 k range, you couldn't even get that price at auction. Its an 06 with normal wear and tear, you are unlikely to get it for what 996s are going for.

I agree. A low mileage cabriolet is worth around $50M. Can you have a body shop look at the repair and give you feedback? If you can get it for KBB and the body shop checks out you should grab it. The rest is probably $1,000 in cosmetics to make it awesome.

The cut on the leather seat. I'm not sure about that. Anyone know how to repair a cut?

Have you take not to a dealer for the DME and PPI? I just bought a LX570 and got price of mind and a new set of brakes by getting a PPI.

Thanks so much for the feedback guys. I really appreciate your guidance and expertise.

I can have the car for the mid to high $30Ks, but even at that price I'm weary. It's obviously not CPO, and any future repairs, either related to the accident or to the minimum maintenance performed, would be expensive. I would obviously do a PPI, just to get a better idea of where the car really stands.

I personally do like the color combo. It's a classic combo, but more in the British tradition than German. Drove the car, and it sounds and drives fine. The CarFax does not mention the accident, but the seller immediately mentioned it. This really calls into question the value of CarFax....

I guess if I can buy it in the low $30Ks, it MIGHT give me some margin of safety. This is assuming the PPI doesn't uncover any big issues. I haven't decided to buy it, so just thinking about the various possible scenarios at this point. I'm also trying to get an idea of the extent of the previous damage.

BTW, since I don't have a garage, the car will sit outside in the street in front of my house. It clearly won't be garage queen, and will be used as a daily driver.

I agree with everyone here. This is a German car so every little thing is going to cost you a lot. I would not take the risk. It's going to be difficult to sell it later with an accident history. You can find one with no history and a bit of miles in the 40's. Why take the risk.
