Rearview camera possible?

Can a rearview camera be installed and integrated into the PSM for a 997.1 C4S Cab?

I'm not aware of a video input into the 997.1 PCM. Perhaps someone will chime in.

An aftermarket double-DIN head unit would do it for sure, but that's a whole different path, replacing the radio/nav/etc.

One option I've seen done is a rearview mirror with a built in hidden LCD. The backup camera can be retrofitted to turn on in reverse and display on the rearview mirror.

Something like this:

I have a Kenwood system in my 997.1 C2S
It has bluetooth, ipod integration, Garmin Nav, DVD player, sat radio, backup camera, etc. It's been great for two years and going strong.
Here's a recent shot that I took from the rear view camera. It has several modes like wide angle, split screen, etc. This shot is wide, obviously, and it shows off my new center exit exhaust!!! I've been waiting for a good time to post it...

Kenwood and Pioneer tend to be the most popular double-DIN top of the line replacement head units: bluetooth, NAV, DVD, backup cameras, iPod/iPhone, satellite radio, aux A/V inputs and outputs, and so on all supported.

I did a full setup with Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT on my Infiniti daily driver. Backup camera is on the rear license plate frame. Absolutely love it! I've considered the full setup in the P-car too, but for now am sticking with the stock PCM.

One thought instead was just a backup camera for now like you. I haven't done the full research yet, but I'd love a rearview mirror with hidden LCD like the Gentek, plus built in hidden V1 radar detector support. That would be cool!

Be careful With the mirror-integrated V1
I did some research and found that the detector itself needs to be in a prominent place with exposure to windshield and rear window for effectiveness.

With the Kenwood/Pioneer systems my stepdad wants to know if he can integrate the steering wheel controls as he does like them and does not want to have dead buttons on his wheel.

yes you can, search the forums, there is an adapter that will allow some of the buttons to be used with the aftermarket radio.

i forget the name of it, but it has been mentioned previously.

I dont have the buttons on my steering wheel....

I did it with my Infiniti. It required a third party box to interface the steering wheel controls to the new head unit. Metra's Axxess steering wheel interface or PAC's SWI were two options in that case. The controls work perfectly.

I recommend asking your radio installer for specifics on the Porsche.

It was Metra's Axxess that my installer suggested (if i actually had buttons...)
