will this multifunction wheel fit directly?

I have just bought a multifunction steering wheel for my 997 C2S. I have the PDK version with heating in the wheel already

Does this have the correct control unit and wiring built in? I believe it does?

The part number is 997.347.803.21.A34

My Porsche service dept. told me that it was not possible to upgrade to a multifunction on my 09 C2S PDK.

Re: Why

After many conversations and even a letter to PCNA Customer Commitment, I was told that a multifunction wheel would not work in my 09 C2S PDK Cabriolet (see my avatar). The Porsche tech at the dealership thinks that it might be due to the fact that the wiring harness can be different in individual cars. Mine was an 09 launch 997.2 with an early build date of July 08. When the service department at the dealership told me it was not possible, I wrote to Porsche Customer Commitment. After consulting with their technical people in Atlanta (and Germany?), they confirmed that it could not be done. I will be interested to hear whether you are successful with the installation. Please keep us apprised of your progress.

I did the multifunction wheel upgrade in my 2009 C4S PDK 2 years ago. Actually I only did the faceplate upgrade and not the entire steering wheel and it only cost $200 back then. My car was built in Jan 2009 and it didn't have heated steering wheel. The installation was a simple swap and it did required a trip to the dealer for the activation. From my recollection, there were only 3 plugs, airbags and control module. There was a post on installation, look it up and it is a DIY job.

Suncoast Porsche offers a multifuction center hub kit for the 2009 PDK 997 with the standard steering wheel. Might suggest you check out their web site and give 'em a call. Not much chance they would offer the kit if it didn't work. Included the link if your interested.

That's exactly the same as the one I have with all the same connections in. My assumption is that the control unit is built in already? Or part of the car?

I spoke to Suncoast (Ryan) months ago. He thought it would work too. But Porsche still nixed it. It was suggested that the Suncoast part was not an original Porsche item. Since I want to use a voucher from Porsche to pay for the upgrade, only original Porsche parts are acceptable. I'm disappointed and confused.

Alirob,

This item listed on our website:

http://www.suncoastparts.com/product//PDKMFS.html

is a genuine Porsche part. I understand your local dealership might be giving you a hard time about it, but this part is found in the PET catalog. We unfortunately do not have an install guide, and it will need to be coded by a dealership/technician with a PIWIS tester.

If you have any other questions let me know, we will be happy to help.

Ryan,
I appreciate your input. What exasperates me is that when I told them (not the dealer, but PCNA Customer Commitment in Atlanta) that I would even go for a complete upgrade to a multifunction steering wheel, they said it wouldn't work. The stock wheel in my car now is a heated PDK. Do you think the "heated" feature is the problem?

With our kit you are only swapping out the face plate. Your heated wheel is staying put.

If you upgrade the full steering wheel, you will need to make sure it is the correct part number which has the heated and multifunction options.

In short, heated will not be an issue.

I did find a post on here explaining the install a bit more:

Let me know if we can help you out.

Once you pop out the rivets to release the face plate, do they allow you to snap them back in?

They are not rivets, but rather clips on the wheel, that will engage with your replacement just fine.

I had a 09 PDK C4S and I bought the multifunction upgrade from Suncoast. It is working perfectly on my car.
