997 as daily driver
997 as daily driver
I just purchased a C2S to use as a daily driver. I hope I dont regret this decision. I have been quickly reacquainted to some 911 quirks. Front scrapes on lots of driveways even at an angle, considerable wind and tire noise at speed, notchy shifter and gear box...
It has been a while since my last 911 and I missed the driving experience.
How is maintainence for a car that is driven daily?

My 05 c2s is a daily driver. 60K miles and it is running great. Other than normal maintenance, you should be fine. The only problem for me is the warm up cycle. I'm 1/3 the way to work in the morning before the engine reaches operating temperature. Nothing like getting on I5 on the return and everybody passing you while I keep the RPMs below 3k. I'm not a fan of The cheap rear speaker grill that buzzes on the freeway. Though my 5 yr old daughter knows how to fix it by hitting it with her hand when she's back there. I'm sure I can wedge a piece of paper somewhere to prevent the buzzing. Ive scraped off a number of the under panels by simply catching them when I pull into the garage. Have knocked a few other plastic pieces hitting curbs in parking lots too.
Other then the driver fatigue in stop & go traffic (both surface streets & freeways) it should hold up just fine. IMO it's not the most enjoyable ride in LA's congested traffic. If you're at cruising speed or whipping through canyons it's a great daily driver.
Thanks for the input. I don't mind driving a stick in traffic.
The long overhang scraping bothers me the most limits the number of driveways I can enter. Besides oil changes what kind of Maintainance is required?
Just had a TPM warning come on. It says TPM sensor is in learning mode. It's been learning for 2 days

Sweet car!
My '07 4S is a daily driver during 3/4 of the year. No special maintenance required. Change the oil in the fall which for me is about every 5,000 miles and regular scheduled maintenance.
At first I had a little driver fatigue in rush hour from the shifting, now I don't even think about it. (But you need a blue tooth adaptor to drive talk and shift, I have Dension)
My rear speaker covers never rattle. The other poster needs to have that fixed.
As far as the warm up period no issue here and I don't believe there is any reason to keep it under 3,000 RPMs until warmed up after the engine is broken in. I think 5,000 RPMs is perfectly acceptable. Curious and will have to look, but isn't 80 mph 3,000 RPMs in 6th gear or is that 70 mph?
I have been amazed at how dependable it is and how fun it is as a daily driver. My only burden is, I like to keep it really clean, so I clean my car all the time and love it clean. I'm into that anyway, so no big deal. I suggest using a polymer based sealer and it will always look hot.
When I first bought it I had Pirellis and the tire dust was horrible. I now have michelins and there is virtually no tire rubber dust in comparison.

Oil, oil filter, air filter, cabin filter, etc etc . . . . Just the normal stuff. Look in your maintenance/service book that should have come w/ the car for a matrix of service vs. miles/months. It's just typical stuff.
Enjoy the ride!

Porsche is a great car to drive daily but not the most spacious to accommodate all the possible events on a daily basis (Costco, home depot, etc...).
Don't get me wrong, I love my Porsche. I replaced my M5 (a car that I thought I would never part with) for a Porsche.
Cheers

Great color Tommy, Mexico blue?
The 997 makes a great daily driver. Decent fuel economy and a surplus of fun. Why make to and from work a drag?
If worried about scraping the front, be more careful and just be glad you're driving a true sports car with generous ground clearance. Porsche designed this car for the real world, not just tracks and Sunday drives.
