Convertible top frustration

I've tried all the cleaners and whatnot, but no matter what I do, I can't get those creases and shiny marks from the hardware underneath out. Does anybody have any experience/suggestions as to what I can do for this? It's really starting to get to me because it almost makes the car look dirty. I appreciate any help with this. Thanks

Great question. I have the same thing happening. You might ask Moe the question in the Detailing forum for a fast response.

I just posted in his thread, thanks for the advice. Can't wait to fix this problem. You know the feeling when you see a girl with a smoking hot body, but then she turns around and you cringe at the sight of her face? That's how I feel lately when I look at my car with all those damn marks.

Shiney marks are wear and can't be removed. Creases might come out with the application of steam but will come back next time you stow the top. Renovo makes a product that allows you to re-die your top. Have never used it but have read some positive reviews on it. Might reduce the appearance on the shiney marks but won't reverse wear.
Google it.

Like that bar scene in "Hall Pass?"

Solution, just park your car next to some beaters, and it'll look a whole lot better.

Option 1) Just leave the top down. Problem solved. If it rains put it up. The shiny marks won't show when the top is wet.

Option 2) Trade for a Targa.

Option 3) Try to recognize that all convertible tops crease and develop marks. Frankly the slight abrasions are what I notice on my car. But that's the price we pay for a top that goes down.

On a side note the comment about the smokin' body but unfortunate face... One of my female employees calls that "butter face" -- everything is great but her face!

I'm feeling the same way. I've had many convertible top cars and nothing has been anywhere as bad of my C2S. It's not just the creases it's the full on abrasions. I have been trying to get Porsche to replace my top...with no luck. They hide behind "normal" wear and tear. I say it very bad design.

those creases will flatten out over time if you park with the top up. avoid parking with the top down as that puts creases in the top.

shiny marks are from the rubber pads holding down when top is down.

neither one will come out with washing as they are not caused by dirty tops. putting a spray of water on the crease when the top is hot under the sun may help to smooth it out. a steam iron works too but just dont burn it.

Next time we do a detail, I'll address this by dyeing the top using a product called RENOVO from England. Should work like a charm.

I've had three of these and don't believe that there is any design flaw. It is indeed wear and tear and the top is replaceable. They wear based on the number of times they are subject to lowering and raising. There's no reason to expect Porsche, or any other company, to replace your tires, brake pads, top or any other consumable item on your car. That's called routine maintenance.

My 2003 BMW M3 conv top looked new to the day I sold the car in 2011. BMW sells a cleaner and treatment which works quite well. My top never showed any creases or discoloration. It's was black. I assume you're treating the top periodically as required?? Plus, you never wash the top like the body of the car. Simply rinsing it is the method of choice. And treating it as required.

I also noticed my M3 has no creases. It's a different folding design so maybe that's why. The M3 rattles like crazy compared to my 996, even after all the lube and cleaning. Luckily, some foam weather stripping from Home Depot has stopped most of the noise.
