I don't blame you. A lot of people like being engaged - doesn't mean you can hold a constant speed, and don't get perceived as an inattentive or distracted driver...

All I'm suggesting is that people who THINK they can do something, doesn't mean they can... they just BELIEVE they can, and there is nothing anyone can say that will change it.

Color me skeptic.

I guess it is possible, if you drive around with your windows down, no radio, no passengers, etc... - like in racing. The sensation of speed is more obvious, along with the wonderful symphony of engine noise. But, cars have become quiet with little road and wind noise, comfortable for passengers, great sound systems to enjoy.

Did you watch the new Mercedes Benz commercial - with all that stuff you can do in your Mercedes Benz? - like check the weather, keep in touch with friends (that have drinking problems), etc... ?

Distraction is a behavior.

Not all driver's are distracted. I'd like to think that most here are attentive drivers. Doesn't mean you can hold a constant speed. You are NOT a machine. You are human.

Cruise control is a tool. Nothing more. Just because it is in your tool box, doesn't mean you MUST use it. Just know that it can make tasks a LOT easier. On the road, perception can change very quickly, and driver's can turn deadly in just a few seconds. Why would anyone want to jeopardize that?

Agree but as with everything... "those who know better" are driving that behavior which may including a mandatory cruise control as the goal to ensure that ..."those who do not know better" are duly protected.
Does nobody watch the Progressive Insurance push for that "dongle-that-gives-you- discount-if-you-install-and-let-me-monitor-about-everything-you-do-including-farting-in-your-car-while-driving"?? Big brother is watching you carefully??
