So I've been dealing a "potential" client regarding Carrera S and I havent heard from him in bit so I sent him an email.......this is the response I got. Got to love his last comment

I have still not decided on the Porsche it is no secret it is a good car. I was disappointed with the engine. I did not discuss this during the test drive, but when you started the engine it sounded like a Volksagen Beetle engine. I was surprised and it did not come into focus until I left the dealership. There was no "wow" factor with the Carrera S. For a car that has an asking price of $104,000 the engine should a have a smooth "buttery' sound that makes you think you are driving something special. I am going to have to re-think what car I want, maybe a BMW M3, Cadillac CTS-V Coupe? After driving the Porsche I now realize why people buy a Porsche it is because of the show off factor that you are driving a Porsche or having a Porsche sit in your driveway to show off to your neighbors. I will be in touch if I want to move forward.
It does not surprise me a bit. This kind of feedback finds its way from dealers to PAG. And look, PAG is acting upon it, the 991 is already a softer, electronically driven car. Assuming that customer was testing a 991, he would have been horrified with a 997, and let's not even talk about a 993 or earlier.
Good point.. I stand corrected. A 911 is not for everyone but a car guy could see a 911 for what it is and not make dumb comments.
Can you imagine his horror if he did actually buy it and took it home to "show off" to his friends? He'd open the Frunk and couldn't find the engine!
That's okay, I don't understand how people manage to cross shop between disparate brands with distinctively different cars anyway. (CTS-V and 991?) Most likely they are just buying the brand to "show off". To each his own...

Man, I used to love the sound of my air cooled 911 and the 997 sounds pretty good too. Clearly, that guy is not a "car guy", especially a "Porsche guy" and not the type who would appreciate a great handling machine.
Maybe he was hearing this on the 991:
The latter, incidentally, is augmented by a new “Sound Symposer” somewhat similar to the sound tube used in the current BMW Z4. An acoustic tube runs from the intake pipe to the rear parcel shelf and has a simple membrane in it that vibrates in concert with intake pulses. The membrane merely amplifies these pulses for the cabin, and a valve in the intake activates the Symposer when you push the standard Sport button. It does indeed wake up the engine’s voice, while the new Carrera’s improved sound insulation more effectively dampens road noise.
Won't be long before you can "dial in" the sound of your choice,

Porsche is pushing to sell to a broadened range of customers eg.. the idiotic Porsche commercial with the soccer mom in a 997 taking her kids to school. The ads short lifespan suggests it wasn't having the desired impact. It shouldn't be a surprise the OP that some of this new customer base will not be familiar with the brand beyond the ads and an occassioinal sighting on the street. A Panamera, which was designed to compete with the larger luxury cruisers offered by BMW, Cadillac, Lexus,..etc. would much better suited for this buyer IMHO.
Sounds like someone I know who told me that they didn't buy the 4S 997.2 because "it just rode to hard" but the base model Carrera was "perfect for them".
Your client needs to shop for a Chevy or Ford to get that smooth as butter sound. He does not deserve to own a P-car.
