MM tread depth?

Can anyone tell me in mm what the rear 295 Pirelli P zeros tread depth is on a new tire? Do you ride them down to the bars normally?

Per Tirerack, the tread depth new is 10/32nds.

It depends on your intended use as to tire depth. I would not go below 4/32nds. I think the wear bar is 2/32nds. Below 4/32nd and it gets a bit slippery in the wet.

I replaced my rear PZero Rossos this summer but was well passed the wear bars. But I don't drive in the rain or winter.
PZeros will be useless at below 7 degrees anyway. They'll be like hockey pucks. You should be thinking snows for New York.

Your question regarding new tire tread depth someone has responded.

For your second question, generally I take the tires on my Porsches down to the wear bars but only during the dry warmer months. I try to nurse the tires 'til fall/winter comes bringing cold wetter weather. Then I get new tires fitted.

The problem with these tires in general is they not only get worn but they get hard from the heat cycling. Hard and noisy. Pirelli particularly based on my experience with Pirelli, Michelin, Continental and Brridgestone tires.

Another reference point is one of my Porsches had a flat tire and the dealer replaced the tire under the road hazard warranty/coverage ($7/tire?) for free.

One requirement is the tire have a minimum of 3mm tread depth remaining. While this time the tire was relatively new, installed last May and with around 7K miles on it, the time before the Turbo had a flat and even with nearly 23K miles on the rear tires there was enough tread depth remaining (barely) that the tire was replaced for free. 'course because of the other tire's difference in diameter I had to pay to have it replaced.

I'd say at around 3mm or a bit under the tires are due to be replaced. BTW, it doesn't hurt to at least have new tires on order. New front tires for the Turbo have been on order now for over a month only to have come in just last Thursday. If you run the tires way down and get a flat or just don't feel the car is safe on the tires you could be up against back ordered tires which could have your car off the road for days maybe weeks.

Thanks all, I m about 4MM on the rears. Even wear. The fronts have a little more left, maybe 5mm.... I bought the car with 5K and now have 11K.I assume they are original. My plan was to put a set of rears in a few months and then when the fronts (and rears) need changing I ll go with a different type tire all the way around. Something longer lasting and better for cold weather but not nesssarily snow. I ll keep it in mind to order them sooner so I wouldn t be waiting.

No performance tire in this range works in cold weather. The rubber doesn't flex enough to generate the heat required to grip. Winter tires aren't just for snow. They far outgrip even all-season tires in the cold & dry. If I lived where you do, I'd have high performance winters mounted this time of year (ie, Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3) and max performance tires (Michelin PSS) for the summer. It's the best way. If you put less grippy summer tires on your car, you'll trash the grip the car needs to perform as expected.
