Excited, PSE goes on tomorrow

After looking around the internet and reading countless reviews on different exhausts, I decided to keep my car's exhaust in the Porsche family. Tomorrow my Porsche Sport Exhaust goes on!

Now, from what I can tell, because I have the chrono sport plus option, the exhaust will be wired to my sport button. Are there any requests I should make regarding the install? For instance, I've read that factory PSE cars do not engage the PSE under a certain MPH and RPM. I will ask the dealer if they can forgo this restriction and enable the exhaust to be on at any rpm/speed.

Once I get the car back, I will take video of the sound (both inside and outside).

I have the PSE sitting in my garage for my 997.2 4S 6 speed coupe. Please if you would, let me or us all know what the labor hours were for the install. I am curious if they need to run the PSE harness from the console to the engine compartment. I have the GTS exhaust with the black/chrome tips. Thanks.

Just had PSE installed January 31, 2013 on my 2010 4s. Labor was $1179.95 at $125.00 p/hr. I was informed that the PSE stays on unless performance requests from the driver requires it to turn off. Hope this helps.

Chaser,

I have debated whether I should install PSE to avoid any warranty issues or to do the Gundo Hack simply as a cost effective alternative. If you don't mind, could you email me to discuss your reasons for making the decision that you made with PSE vs, other after-market alternatives or the Gundo Hack. As much as the Gundo Hack seems to be the "simple" solution, I am not sure that it may be the best solution.

Thanks,

Warren

I have PSE on my 2006 C4 and its splendid.
With the vacuum connector removed from its socket, the sound is awesome on all rpm ranges and under all loads

Warren: The reason I went with PSE is my wife drives the car daily and she does not want it "loud" all of the time. But sometimes she wants to hear the engine. So, for us, PSE was the answer. If it were my daily driver, the Gundo hack would be the way to go. I figure the PSE installed will end up at about $3,000.

My decision was based on warranty concerns. I also feel the original Porsche Sport Exhaust adds value to the car.

Update. After 3 weeks, I finally got my exhaust installed. The install took so long because of my specific requests from the dealer.

After reading all the PSE threads and after talking to the tech who worked on my car, I found out that the PSE installed retroactively does indeed go through the car's DME (computer) and restricts the opening of the exhaust to speed parameters.

With this in mind, I wanted my installation to enable me full control over the exhaust system outside of the DME. To do this, the tech installed a 997.2 lower console with the extra exhaust button, however, the exhaust button independently controls the exhaust. It is basically a button that gives power to the solenoids in the exhaust. No power, exhaust is loud, power, exhaust is quiet. Also, the switch recalls my latest setting when the car is turned off.

In terms of sound, it's perfect. The exhaust opened gives a nice aggressive note, especially as the engine revs past 3k. However, even when open, the exhaust is never droning, or tiring (I used to have an R32 with a full competition exhaust and it was annoying at highway speeds). Of course, when closed, the exhaust sounds completely stock.

Let me know if you have any specific questions about the exhaust. I love it!

Are you saying it took 3 weeks to install or 3 weeks of planning? If the install took 3 weeks I'd hate to see the bill.

I did the same on my 'ole' 997.1 regarding the console mounted 'exhaust logo' button. Mine always reverts to loud mode when I fire up the car.

Interesting that the button remembers your setting when you shut off the car. My car always starts in the off position.

Planning. Most of the time was spent waiting for a part to come in. Install took a day. I did not mind for the dealer to hang onto the car for the waiting period because they bailed me out in a panamera 4

Congrats on getting PSE!

I'm sure you're enjoying it! I wanted to go that route, but just couldn't justify the price to retrofit. So for a mere fraction of the cost, I went with the Fister exhaust (which is what the Gundo hack copied) for my 997.1. It provides the same sound and it's always on; I would have wanted my PSE to be on all the time anyway. I had my Porsche dealer do the install and they couldn't believe how good the Fister exhaust sounded, the tech and service advisor said it's exactly like PSE.

You can't go wrong either way. It's such a lovely sound. I look forward to driving my car just to hear the exhaust note.

It was pricy and I definately considered going the gundo hack/fister exhaust. But in the end, I wanted the ability to control the sound (this is probably due to my past experiences with aftermarket exhausts). For me, the PSE's ability to control the exhaust volume is worth the extra premium.

I also understand that there are aftermarket applications that have the same control as the PSE (like fabspeed). However, I believe that the PSE will make my car more desireable if I decide to sell it down the road to a potential buyer than a fabspeed or fister applicaiton.
