breather tube for the battery... you should have a little plastic nipple (or a hole) on your battery...

Joel I guess the nipple that was attached to the battery fell off and I can't fit hose without the small piece. Is it necessary for the vent hose to be attached to the battery?

I believe that is to make sure that in case you have a spill, the acid does drip at the base. Thus, find one and attach it.

Cab83... is correct when he says find one and attach it. Primary reason for the vent hose is to vent the gas that leaks from the battery which can be highly explosive under certain conditions. If battery does not have a vent hole you need to get a properly vented battery. Would suggest you go to an Auto Zone or comparable retailer and see if they can get you the proper pastic connecting elbow if the battery has the proper vent hole.

the nipple should be right on one the the edges(corner) of the battery(under the top rim).... I d look right above where the hose is. It going to be small.
