Interior door handle popped loose!

Interior door handle popped loose!
I pulled the interior door handle and felt a "pop." The door still opens, but the handle doesn't retract completely. It stays out about a cm, and the window stays pulled down just a bit (you know--for venting when you close the door). Unless I push the handle back in...where it won't remain.
Is there likely to be a DIY fix that I can try, or is this a "no user serviceable parts inside" deal? It's a 2006 997.1, out of warranty.

Quick fix
If your handle snapped and you feel comfortable, you can take off both door panels and switch the plastic pieces. So when mine broke I put the left plastic mechanism on the right and vice versa. Doesnt cost any money. The reason I did this was it broke on a Sunday and I could not get the part. The micro switch on the window left it open all the time. The switch works so good I never bought the new part.

I was away from all the pictures and DIY , on the 2005-2008 3.6. Its interchangeable with the other side. Each side uses the different tabs when flipped.
This is a picture of the driver side. You can see the tab broke. But if you flip it and use it on the passenger side, the tab (non broken one) is able to be used. In this picture the white area is where the tab broke. Then use the other side for the drivers door, as both tabs should be in tack. Again a simple fix cost zero dollars. Let me know if there are questions. Here is a DIY for the door panel removal, GL and either way, using my hack or buying the whole assembly it is and easy fix.

Less than 20 bucks and well worth it to not have to remove the door panel on the other side. The trim and screws are easy but those door panel clips are a PITA!
