Into the body shop tomorrow
Cosmetic work getting done. Higher mileage 2006 C2S with tons of paint chips and poor repair attempts.
On the body shop list:
On the body shop list:
- Hood & front fenders strip & paint
- Roof, doors, rear end and lights polish & detail
- GT3TEK Stage II full body kit install
- Full front end Xpel install, including lights, upper roof line, A-pillars and exterior mirrors
- Turbo 6-pot calipers should be back from powder coating for an upgrade
- Carrera S II wheels back from refinishing
- New 245's / 305's Michelin PSS's installed
Is it safe to put a paint protection film on the hood immediately after repainting? I was under the impression that the film will be much more adherent to the paint and may pull the paint when you remove it.
Good question. From www.xpel.com:
"How long should I wait to apply your product if my car has been repainted?"
You will need to talk to your body shop and see what they recommend. The time will vary depending on the type of paint the body shop used, and whether or not the paint was baked. In any case, the time that they say you should wait to wax the paint, is the same time you will need to wait to install our product

Just dropped her off. The body shop here has four Porsche certified techs and does all the body work for the local dealerships.
I asked about the Xpel install so soon after painting. They will be doing a double bake on the hood and front fenders, and waiting 48 hours on top of that before installing. No worries!
All in with body kit install 34 hours body labor, 31 hours paint labor, plus paint and the Xpel material.

I had the same front end respray, new windshield given all the pits, and a paint correction polish to the rest of the car and it's like new. Mine has 93K and love it.

71K miles.
The car has a handful of ignitions in the DME range 3, one spike in range 4 from its early years (around 15K miles). The calipers are an awful brown up front, pink in the rear. Rotors are worn and showing signs of heat cracking. Given all the paint chips, wear and caliper discoloration, this car was likely tracked by prior owners. Since I'd like to go with a supercharger in the future, I'm upgrading to 6-pot turbo calipers now for cosmetics and preparing for more power later. The used turbo set I purchased is out for refinishing to clean up some minor blemishes. Once swapped the current C2S brown/pink calipers will be either sold as-is or refinished back to Porsche red and then sold, perhaps to the 996 community.
Being plain black non-metallic, the body shop says this is the easiest Porsche color to match. The doors will have some minor wet sanding for a scratch, possibly paint blended and then cleared if needed. His first impression was paint blending would not be needed.
Bought the car last June with a windshield chip. It was the first thing replaced. And yes given the shape of the car on purchase I got it for a phenomenal deal, well below wholesale. Even after all the upgrades so far it's still worth more than I'm into it.
