Wheel spacers stuck to rear wheels

Hi folks,

installed the RSS spacers from Suncoast before mounting my winter wheels/tires (see thread https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...questions.html)

I attempted to switch to summer wheels/tires and do a brake fluid flush. The front spacers were not hub-centric, so that came out just fine. However, the rear spacers are hub-centric and are "stuck" to the wheel. there are no mount points to try and gently pry it out. I tried using a plastic wedge and rubber mallet to bang and loosen it to no avail.

I've seen some suggestions about WD40, but wouldn't that be a terrible idea in case some of it transfers from the spacers to the brakes (I guess need to thoroughly wash it off)?

Advice kindly appreciated

Best,
wolf

You might try a little heat and/or give them a solid whack w/ a hammer. They're solid aluminum so they're pretty immune to damage from a solid hammer strike.

Aluminum can dent as its softer than steel.
Put a block of wood against the spacer and give a good whack with the hammer.

Try some PB blaster too - let it soak for a bit and it should release. Just make sure to clean the rotors/pads liberally afterwards w/ brake cleaner. Then once freed up, make sure you apply anti-seize to the rotor hat/hub mating surface and/or back of wheel in future (and on spacers) to prevent or at least limit amount of corrosion.

Good luck

I have used a flat head screw driver and a hammer. Wedge the screw driver in between the spacer and the rotor and give it a few hits. When you remount them apply a little grease to keep it from happening again.

This happened to mine as well. There should be a slight gap at some point along the seam where they join. You can then pry them apart.

You mean hub, not rotor. It would be a real problem if stuck to the rotor.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I did a combination of the techniques provided: The hammer definitely made a dent and I tried prying it off and there definitely is a deep scratch on the inside of the spacer where it meets wheel hub - will this be an issue?

in any case, I had to remove the wheel cap to get the right leverage that way, used some PB Blaster, found a piece of wood and used the mallet to bang it out. Worked like a charm.

This forum is full of geniuses. Thanks, everyone.
