My wife pregnant with our first.

Anyway, as the title says, we are preparing to have our first rugrat. :-) Since I have no intention of parting with my beloved 997, I was hoping that you guys could point me in the right direction as far as car seats go. Not the most interesting topic I know, but I figured that many of you have also had to adjust for a newbie.

One more unrelated question... My seat belts squeak. How do I prevent that? Thanks ahead of time!

I have a booster in my back seat, my daughter has been driving in my 997 since she was 7. So don't know for an infant, but remember the rear seat cushions are attached with Velcro and pull right out.

This topic comes up all the time. I would search here for "child car seat" and see what comes up.

my wife is expecting our first as well in 2 months. i just bought a graco snugride 30 and it seems to fit in the back of my cab without issues, albeit without the base. straps in with the belt and does not move or have any play whatsoever. makes the front seat fairly unusable though because you have to move it quite a bit forward.

Congratulations. I take my 6.5 year old twins with my wife and I everywhere in the 997. Honestly, it's gonna be really tough until the kid is old enough to put in a front facing seat.
It'll be fine for you but the passenger will be cramped because you'll need to slide the seat so far forward to accommodate the rear facing seat.

My kids love the 997. When my wife isn't in the car we zoom around and open the roof and windows and blast the music on twisty roads. They think we are going crazy fast but we don't.

Congrats to all of you expecting parents! The wife and I are due with our first in October. On a completely unrelated note, we just bought our first 911 CS two weeks ago

First of all congrats this is going to be an awesome time in your life for you and your family. If the belt squeaking is coming from the seat belt recoil then, I would try to add some white lithium grease to the mechanism it self but be careful not to add to much.

Honestly, it's gonna be really tough until the kid is old enough to put in a front facing seat.
+1 Then after that you can get a Porsche Designed One.

you'll have a little harder time getting an infant seat to fit, but it can be done in the back. once you can move to the 20-65lb seats, things get easier. i use a britax roundabout and it works great. i removed the seat bottom from the seat, removed my seat cushions and backs and you have to be a little creative to get it to snug down very tightly, but it can easily be accomplished. my seat is now as well mounted as it was in any other car. you also have tether mounts under the carpet in the parcel shelf area. there are perfed lines where you cut to expose the bracket - it's under about 2" of foam that needs to be trimmed away. if you have any questions along the way, feel free to PM me. this is my daughter in her britax. she loves the car and giggles and laughs when i accelerate hard.

You know, little people don't take up much room so gettin' 'em to fit in your 997 will be easy. Lot's of posts on that subject. But then, that isn't the real issue. The real issue is all the baby stuff that's goes with babies. You know the stuff that babies need to take with 'em whenever you go out. All of that stuff isn't going to fit in the 997 if you plan on taking Mom with you. I'd get the best rated infant seat you can buy, ( you'll need others when the little one gets bigger ) and attach it to a new Cayenne ( or a mini van,or something like that ). That way you can go visiting folks and show 'em your new pride and joy and have plenty of room for baby stuff. Congratulations on the news.

this is exactly why the wife drives a 'ute.

a chronic issue here in TX is moms driving gigantor-sized Escalades, Yukons, Suburbans, Expeditions, etc. for one or 2 children. the same can easily be accomplished in a small/mid-range 'ute, but i digress... daddy can still drive the 997 all week, pick up, drop off at daycare and hit the C&C, autox or track on the weekends. best of both worlds - why compromise?
