IMS failure on way to trade for 991S!!!!
Not exactly sure why asking a simple question turns me I to a hater ...
But here's the deal: the OP's trade in had an IMS failure and now it's totally up to the dealer who wants to sell him a new 991 to strike a deal with PCNA to get some goodwill on the IMS issue - right? The LAST thing I would do at this point is to give the dealer the slightest reason not to believe that I am rock solid in my decision to buy the car. Would't you agree?

Dealer just called with update that they are still waiting to hear from Porsche but he thinks what is going to happen is Porsche will pay for new engine and labor falls to me. He said could be 6K in labor. Sounds high to me. I get the feeling that dealer is going to take advantage of the situation. Everything I have read leads me to believe Porsche will cover 100%. I do realize this is good faith repair however I am 16 days out of warranty and buying a 2013 991. Since I am not dealing direct with PCNA and just being told by dealer what they (PCNA) says there seems to be room for dealer double dip. Again nothing is final yet, but seems dealer setting me up for whats to come. Not accusing them of anything yet, but he asked if I would be paying the labor or just have it taken off the trade value. Feeling queasy again. I would be comfortable with 2K and move on.

I'm not sure how many Porsche dealers there are around you up there, but here in So Cal, there's enough to be able to leverage with to threaten to walk away and purchase from another that will bend over backwards to help a customer.
Question: is my 05 worth more with a new engine? Since dealer is suggesting that I may be on hook for labor I'm thinking maybe I just have them fix my 05 and move into a 991S when I find another on that has my name on it. The fact the dealer is speculating that I will have to pay labor is souring the deal for me. I will wait for official word from PCNA. But even that comes through the dealer. I asked if I could see PCNA's response when they get it and Bob at the dealer hesitated and said it just comes into their system. Is it possible for me to contact the right person at PCNA myself? Opinions please.

If it comes into their system, he should be able to print it out or show it to you on the screen.
No?
Have your Porsche dealer check to see if your VIN is part of the IMS failure 'Class Action'. If an IMS failure occurs before 10 yrs of the in-service date it's my understanding that Porsche will provide some sort of compensation to replace the motor. I believe it has to be an early build 997 to qualify. I think my 997S is covered as it had a very early build date (August 2004).

Yes I did check my VIN on the class action and it is included. My car is a 10/04 build date. I did make dealer aware of the class action even forwarded a copy of it. Mentioned it again to him today and he said he wasn't sure if he interpreted it the same why I am. Seems pretty cut and dry to me. His words were that "this would be a good faith repair from Porsche" in a tone that made it sound like I should be grateful that they would offer to do anything. I talked to my local Porsche service advisor and he quoted me $2760 in labor to replace an engine which sounds way more reasonable than 6K. He said they have done two IMS engine replacements and that it takes a while for PCNA to respond to these claims. I need to be patient and not rush things.

sounds like the dealership is playing games and/or not really motivated to help u out.
i would wait for PCNA to respond favorably and then choose to get your work done at a dealership of ur choice.. preferably, near u.
i would also buy the 991 anywhere but Bergstrom Porsche.

Don't give up. You are in the right, and you are spending enough money to get it your way. Don't be afraid to walk away if you think they are taking care of you. Also, don't be afraid to pick up the phone and call a news station. You know they would eat a high-end car dealer scandal up.
IMS failure on way to trade for 991S
[QUOTE=Cutters68;3824631] I am 16 days!! out of my Porsche CPO warranty with only 23,580 miles!!
Cutters68 : re: CPO details; We all hope you get a good outcome. We assume PCNA will try to the do the right thing, but the CPO for older cars is 24 months and the warranty and the ownership history are not clear from your posts. I was told by my salesman the the CPO coverage is worth about $4800 on the value of a re-sale car. You put 23k miles on the '05 (the car is + seven years old) or is the total mileage 23k ?
I ask to suggest that there would be a different response from the Porsche dependent on the details (service records). I had an early Audi allroad that had airbag failures way, way past the warranty, yet Audi did the replacement because it was one the first to exhibit the problem. The IMS isn't in that group but you just passed the date limit, it would seem appropriate for PCNA to give you coverage. A lot of folks got stuck w/ the repair bill. From the history for IMS anything from Porsche would seem like a gift. You can find hundreds of posts for the failure going back to 2008 on 6speed. Again I wish you luck !

Buyer beware when it comes to IMS failure by longislander1 Oct 02, 2009
From the accounts I've read, Porsche replaces the defective engine with a rebuilt one if your car is still under warranty. If your car is slightly out of warranty and the dealer service manager likes the color of your tie that day, Porsche may throw in only a few thousand dollars and you're stuck with the rest. And if you're like the poster above, you're simply stuck. Boxsters have been subject to some real head-spinning depreciation already, so when you add on the bill for an engine replacement, it's a major financial hit. A lot of people will have to pay more for a new engine than their car is worth.
