IMS failure AGAIN! (This time revised)

2 months ago I had an IMS failure (https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...cs-inside.html).

We put in an engine with 15k miles on it, revised IMS, RMS, new clutch etc.

About a month ago I got my car back on the road. I put about 3000 miles on it, put a brand new set of breaks, tyres and had it detailed.

All in all I put on another 4,5k$ since engine replacement.

Today I had another REVISED IMS failure.

Full Disclosure: I was on a track day yesterday. 4x warm up lap + fast lap + cool down lap. All together 8 miles of track driving (2,7 of them fast). It's a very small track

Car was fully warmed up, cooled down etc. I had a 40 mile drive back home without any problems. Today after driving 20 miles in traffic I once again had to call a tow truck.

That really blows. I kinda wish there was a cheap insurance policy that just covered IMS bearing failures.

That's just too sad! Must be extremely frustrating. But have you 100% confirmed that it was the IMS again? With the used engine that went in, just wondering if it could be any number of other causes.

Good luck, hope the third times a charm.

Man that's not good. So glad I passed the magic 500 miles today so my warranty has fully kicked in as these horror stories don't make for fun reading. Until I passed the 500 miles today was always thinking when ever I got in car please don't have any problems today

Damn that sucks!! Can you please specify what engine you installed? New or used? What do you mean by revised, was it from a 06+ with a beefier IMS? Why didnt you install the LN engineering bearing retrofit?

Unreal. Can't even imagine the prospect of paying for two engine replacements in two months. As others have said, it's really outrageous that this was never acknowledged as a design flaw and fixed by Porsche at no cost to the customer.

Sorry to hear this.

On the replaced engine, did it also have the smaller IMS bearing? Which revised IMS bearing was installed; LNE, Pelican....

Sorry to hear about your luck, hopefully it's covered under some sort of warranty. Keep us posted on the update.

I'll keep you all posted.

To answer a few questions:
- Yes. It is confirmed to be an IMS failure.
- The replacement engine was an 2005 with 15k miles on it. We had aftermarket IMS and RMS installed. I'm sorry but I don't know what IMS exactly.

At the moment it looks like my indy + engine supplier will cover their part so the only cost will be about 200$ to get the car transported to my indy. I have a bad feeling that it'll cost me more before it's finished since there is no writen warranty but hopefuly not.

I am disappointed to say the least. I have taken a 3500 mile road trip to Spain in a Porsche before (including my current 997!). Won't happen again (at least not anytime soon).

After owning my 996TT I considered P-Cars bulletproof. I had 100% confidence in my cars.
