997.2 Bose speakers better than 997.1?
997.2 Bose speakers better than 997.1?
My bro has extra set of .2 Bose speakers (door) and thinking of replacing my .1 speakers? I've read that .2 Bose system is significantly better but don't know if speakers are part of the reason.
Thanks
Thanks
Really? There was a few cars between, but I don't recall any "significant" difference from my .1 to my .2.

Forget about them being better. If the ohms, size, etc. are the same (i.e., plug and play), I would do the swap as the .2 are newer (year of make wise). Ozone and aging does kill the speaker material.
From my experience, most stock systems don't have speakers that are worth the effort to move from one application to another, especially if your current speakers are not blown. This is even more the case with bose products as they really don't put any effort into speaker build quality. Also...bose is notorious for building speakers with strange impedences so that it makes change out difficult. I wouldn't assume that a 14 ohm speaker from a 997.1 would be the same strange impedence in the 997.2...they might put in a 2.47 ohm just for ****s and giggles.
If you really want to improve sound, you will need to upgrade speakers, which is a slippery slope into amplification and heat unit. Unless you are dead set on improving sound, I would let well enough alone...at least that is my 2 cents.
I have upgraded to aftermarket in pretty much every car I have owned, but with the 997.1, I have held off as it never will really be a high end sound platform.

I couldn't have summarized it any bettter. Similar to you, I am leaving my system alone. I have owned many vehicles in my lifetime and have always upgraded my stereo system on every one, except my 997. Currently, I have about $5,000.00 worth of high-end speakers, amplifiers, etc. in my garage just sitting.
At the minimum, I was planning on replacing the speakers with Dynaudio components but was too afraid to actually see the factory Bose speakers; I would not be surprised if they are just paper. In the interim, I am leaving things alone until a speaker or two blow up.

I am just beginning to fully change out my system with new speakers, amps, headunit etc . So far I've only had time to change out the front tweeters with Focal k2 tweeters. I think in my humble opinion the stock tweeters are a severe weak link, because now the entire system with stock everything sounds ten times better, almost satisfying. Before, at slightly more than moderate level the sound would distort and break up sounding terrible. Now I can turn it up and the sound is clear rather than loud, and the rest of the stock speakers sound much better than they did with the stock tweeters. This includes the subwoofers too. By being able to turn the volume up a bit the other speakers seem to have jumpted to life. Try changing the tweeters to a solid heavy duty high quality tweeter and see if that is enough of an upgrade. For the input, I tried to use one of those radio frequency adaptors and the sound was terrible. I read somewhere that if you have a cd changer you can just tap into those wires but you lose the use of the cd changer.
My screen was damaged due to a bad valet service, so I have to change out my system anyway. I'm going all the way.

So, just to be clear: from 100% factory Bose setup, you replaced just the tweeeters, correct? My plan was to replace both tweeters and mids with DynAudio and find out the difference.
Did your Focals come with the x-overs? Did you use them?
Thanks.

yes, I just replaced the tweeters with the focals, no crossover. I'm doing the replacements in small steps due to time constraints, so at some point I won't have any music but that's fine. I purchased a JL M8 processor so I won't need the crossovers. I was really surprised that the other stock speakers sounded so much better after the tweeter swap. I'm assuming though that when I put the focals in the doors it will be fantastic.
If I was on a low budget, wanted to keep the stock system but improve the sound dramatically, I would say just get the best tweeters you can afford.

The quickest and best bang for the buck upgrade has always been changing the speakers first.
I do plan on experimenting with my Dynaudio when time permits.
Of course, I hope it stops there and I don't get into the mode of "while I am here, let me also upgrade this and that...."

Thanks for the comments gents. Not looking to spend much time or money on improving sound. If I get bored I might try the speaker swap. However the tweeter upgrade sounds more promising. Does anyone have preferred sound settings? I'm finding the best compromise is near '0' on treble, bass, fade, etc

I have a nice Polk Audio SDA sound system with the SRS2 and CRS+, Parasound, Carver, Adcom, NAD, amps, and other speakers all of which could hold their own as mains. My home is set up for listening. I know that the car is the last place for true audiophile stuff, but a good system is fine for listening in a Porsche. Also, my Porsche is fine for listening compared to my other rattlesound cars.
I made a new thread just now for my install starting with the tweeters. It's here:

I hope it helps! It did involve some permanent trimming, but it's hidden, for the most part reversible, fairly easy (about 1/2 hour) and looks stock.

It's not the speakers - part numbers for 997.1 and 997.2 are the same.
