Updating Nav on PCM 3.0
Updating Nav on PCM 3.0
I have a 2010 997 with Nav and PCM 3.0.
The firmware shows as "V" which I am told means version 1.0.
I took it to the dealer today to get the maps+firmware updated, as they are quite old and missing streets, etc.
Unfortunately, they were unable to apply it after multiple tries.
I think they may have gone wrong by not applying the 1.4 update first, which Suncoast seems to recommend.
Has anyone else successfully upgraded their maps+firmware? If so, do you have any info I can share with them?
They are going to call Porsche on Monday to get info, but I figure any clues help at this point.

This has proven to be extremely challenging for the service guys.
I went back today and they had a Porsche rep present - still unable to apply the maps update.
They are ordering a whole new PCM system now.

Porsche is just so out of whack that it isn't even funny any more. $550 for a freaking map upgrade? WTH? Thanks for this info. Now I'll know to look for a car without Navigation. Inelegant as it will seem, I'll use my portable Garmin (free map updates for life!) in the car before I'll pay Porsche $550 for something that should cost about $75, tops...
I have Nav in my car but I typically use my iPhone 5 with Pandora, Google Maps or Navigon for directions. Lately I've been trying Waze.

I like having it integrated in the car..and if it's in there I want it to run the latest stuff.
TBH I am more interested in the firmware fixes than the map upgrades, but I will use it all.

Not everyone has (or wants) a "smart" phone.
I can buy Navtech lifetime map updates for the obsolete Garmin GPS on my BMW motorcycle for $85! Why the hell would I give Porsche $399 for a one-shot map update that is probably the same data from Navtech? I'm telling you, Porsche is simply out of their flippin' minds...

Well, it's all done at last - they replaced the radio today and everything (XM, iPod, Bluetooth) still works.
The bad news? The price - it did come up higher than the original quote, $534 for the discs and $150 for the labor.
I am glad, though to be on v2.23 of the software. I've found some bugs in 1.0 (for example, handoff from iPhone->Car muted the call until hangup.)
The maps are now up to date and I am no longer "off roading" when I drive home.
There are noticeably more POI icons on the map now too.
In the end - I am gruntled, but this has to be the most expensive GPS update in the history of the GPS!
