2009 C2S - Add oil or do service?
2009 C2S - Add oil or do service?
Purchased a 2009 C2S with 20k miles 11 months ago. At that point the car was CPO'd by the dealer. It now has 24,000 miles.
I got a notice on the car that it is due for a service in 29 days. I decided to check the oil level this morning and it was on the lower end of the bracket.
Given that, should I just add some oil or take it in for its service now which would include an oil change?
Also, what should I expect the service to be when I take it in? 3 year & 24,000 miles?
Thanks,
Jason

I assume it's already has the 20K mile service done. That includes oil/filter change, replace air/cabin filters and various checks. You will probably just need an oil/filter change and maybe a brake fluid flush if it wasn't done already when you purchased the car. I wouldn't add any oil, just take it in, it's due for service.
I just went through the same thing. I just took it in for service then since they'll fill it up with oil anyways. I also needed to get some stuff fixed. They also founds some leaks which they fixed under warranty.
I picked mine up around 14,800 miles and at that time dealer CPO paperwork said they changed oil, air and cabin filters, along with brake fluid flush.
Almost a year later and short of 18k miles on the car, I changed the oil, got brake fluid flushed, and changed air+cabin filters. The filters were filthy dirty, had I followed manufacturer specs and waited to 20k miles perhaps I may have been fine, but I wanted to do everything as an annual maintenance though early to some.

the car hasn't been serviced in the last 2 years. if it did, you would not get that reminder light.
you are looking at brake fluid, engine oil and filter change for sure. you may be sold on cabin and air filters.
call around to get some quotes from a few dealers. LA dealers are pretty competitive but often prices vary. also, dealers often have service specials on their sites.
have your tires and brakes checked.
if there are any issues, bring it up during the service. when calling the dealer, mention you want a loaner or else you will end up with a cheap rental car

On a 2009 wouldn't this be the 4 year service at this point?? I think so... which is oil, filter, cabin filter, air filters, spark plugs, brake flush.
On the .2 cars, the service is yearly or every 10k. It's pretty straight forward (going off memory):
1/10: oil, filter, inspection
2/20: oil, filter, cabin filter, inspection, brake flush at 2 years
3/30: oil, filter, inspection
4/40: oil, filter, inspection, cabin, air filter, brake flush at 4 years, spark plugs
etc.

The car was purchased originally in December of 2009 so I have a little bit of time until the 4 year. But the car went through the CPO service in June of 2012. I will post what was done at that service and get all of your great thoughts.

Ok...new info on this to help me decide what to do.
- The car had it's 2 year 20k service in June 2011
- It got an oil change as part of the CPO in June 2012
- It's do for it's year service but technically ready for the 4 year large service in Dec. 2013.
So do I:
1) Just add oil now and do the big service in Dec '13
2) Do an oil change now and then do the service in Dec '13 which will include another oil change
3) Do the 4 year service now, 6 months early
Feeling like #2 is the way to go but I'd love your thoughts.

do 2.
what's the big service anyways? can't be more than just more fluid such as brake and air and cabin filters. the filters can be done by yourself easily.
flush your brake fluid either this trip or by year end. it's due.

Many of the regularly-scheduled items you can do yourself if this interests you. The benefit is you save some $$ of course but the real benefit is learning about your 997, the mechanicals - basically how stuff works.
If this does not appeal to you, certainly you can get the oil changed now and then take it in for the larger service late in the year.
Either way, congrats and enjoy your Porsche - almost to your one year anniversary!
