Fuel question
Fuel question
A small group of friends is going on a drive this weekend, and I've been given a heads up that the quality of gas isn't so good where we are heading. I was wondering if I should be concerned, and if so what recommendations you guys have. A couple guys are taking some xylene premix as a precaution.
Just up in the backwoods of northern Arizona.
Bored, stroked, high compression pistons, thin head gasket, etc. Anything greater than stock compression...is high compression and often requires higher octane fuel.

My GTS has a 12.5:1 compression ratio. You don't consider that high compression? I think all the 911 DFI engines are around 12.5:1, and the 911 engines do require high octane fuel. Do you not consider an engine to be high compression until it gets up to diesel compression?

It is high compression compared to what? A Civic! Point is you can run on 93 octane. A modified engine often requires a booster- ours does not if stock.
You can get 93 anywhere in AZ, if your near Vegas you can even get 100 octane.

Actually, that's not the case. Our pumps have 87, 89 and 91. 93 is not available anywhere in the metro phoenix area, though the Love's by Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park has race fuel.
True enough, 91 octane is generally as good as it gets in Phoenix and most of Las Vegas. I spend a lot of time in both places and haven't had a fuel issue yet with my 3.6 997.1. I wouldn't worry if you are headed for the rim for the weekend as I was up there last year and 91 was generally available in Payson, Show Low and Pine Top. Have a great ride and get away from this 113 degree heat.
You are correct. Error on my part.
