PCM Failure for no reason

PCM Failure for no reason
Hi,
I just started my car today and found out the PCM was not operating, everything including radio, Bluetooth, ipod connection and navigation were all unavailable, everything was reset back to German, the screen was shut off afer a minute and turns back on again. I don't know what's the cause of it and my car's CPO and the coverage goes all the way to 2016, so does any one know the cause of this and does pcm issues covered under the warranty? Thanks.

Yes, PCM is covered under CPO warranty. Just take it to dealer and have it fixed. When I first got my CPO'd car, some of the PCM features didn't work right. It took about 5 trips to dealer to get it fixed properly. They almost decided to replace it (about $2500) but found a glitch in another electronic module that was causing the issue.

When yours gets serviced by the dealer, be sure to go through the menus thoroughly and make sure you can access everything you should be able to. In my case, the initial issue was that AM radio stations were set to European standard so I couldn't tune in US stations. After they "fixed" that, I went home and subsequently found I couldn't adjust some of the personal settings such as daytime running lights properly, etc. I had them check with PCNA to re-load all the PCM with the original codes for my car. That didn't solve everything either. Just don't accept it until you're satisfied that it works 100%.

I'm actually having a PCM 3.0 problem on my 2010 C4S Cab right now, which is a CPO car as well. The iPod regularly "locks up", and is unresponsive when trying to change tracks or change the volume. And worst of all, the entire PCM unit is now rebooting at random times. The screen goes completely blank, then restarts with the usual Porsche logo. It is now happening at least every other time I drive the car, and is currently with the Dealer for the 4th time in 3 weeks to sort it out.
I expect to have the entire PCM unit replaced under the CPO warranty, but the Dealer seems extremely hesitant to do that and tells me that it is Porsche NA that is picky about it, not them. But after 4 trips to sort it out, I expect a permanent solution with a new unit! I'll see after this latest visit with the Dealer (in the meantime, I've got a Panamera loaner, so I suppose it could be worse!).

Thanks DJS. You know, I asked the Tech that very question the last time they had my car last week, and the guy swears that the latest firmware version for the PCM 3.0 is 1.47, which is what they installed 2 trips ago. I think I saw your post on this previously, and specifically asked him. I'll check again today....

Well thats convenient. So that firmware revision (2.xx) may not even be compatible with the older PCM 3.0 hardware. And as I'm out of warranty may make the whole thing a moot point.

Final Resolution on PCM 3.0 Problems
So after 5 trips back to the P Dealer, and after many hours of the Tech guy on the phone with the PCM specialist at Porsche NA, we have finally solved (at least for now) the problems I was having with my PCM (which was locking up and rebooting regularly).
They ended up completely wiping out all previous iPod and iPhone profiles off the PCM. We then slowly introduced each device to ensure that it didn't keep falling over. The iPod was successful, so after 3 days of no problems, I reconnected my iPhone 5 via BlueTooth. I noticed that my iPod was having some problems becoming available very slowly after I reinstalled my iPhone, so I had to assume that the iPhone was triggering the problems. I tried turning OFF the "Auto Update" feature on the phonebook, and that seems to have now stopped the problems. Since I have so many contacts, the phonebook was loading up every time time I started the car, which was locking up the iPod and sometimes making it crash. Now that I have loaded the phonebook onto the PCM once, it is now stored locally so I have turned the auto update feature off and I have apparently solved the problem!
This was an enormous pain, and quite frankly I can't understand how the P Dealer was unable to trouble-shoot this more effectively. Maybe you guys have had better luck with your Dealers being better informed of the PCM intricacies, but my experience was painful.... They did finally agree that if this set of solutions didn't finally resolve the issue then they would indeed replace the entire PCM unit, but I truly hope this is the last time I have to go back to the Dealer for this problem
