Intresting thing...

Hey im new here i just traded my 05 E55 for a new ML having a baby in a month, and was looking for somthing more sporty for myself, and went to my buddy who works at Porsche to have a look at used 996 turbo.

I really love the look of it, BUT, when i got inside i was so uncomfortable!!! Im a big guy 240 pounds, and everything just didnt feel right, then I sat in a 997s and I DAMN LOVED it.

Did anyone else had simmilar expirience? I never had a porsche before, but after a test drive 997s, cant freaking get it out of my mind, i think I'll see it in my garage by end of this year...

P.s Most probably i will take slightly used one, do you guys think i should really wait and wait for 2006 model? I heard horror stories about first year 997?!

I think the interior is night and day between the two though the interior dimensions are identical.

I thought the 997 and 996 felt identical as well. The only difference I can think of is that the 997 is available with 10mm lower seat height as an option and the steering wheel is tilt adjustable compared to the 996 which has telescoping adjustment only.

I agree with Donna. 997 interior is much improved over the 996. I had a 996 TT and really liked it. Then I drove a 997 and felt like I was home. Never had that immediate feeling of comfort with the 996.

996 interior looks more sporty than 997 while 997 interior is more luxury; passenger might also like the 997 interior better while the 996 interior is more driver focused. interesting u mention it because i actually feel 996 interior is a little more roomy than 997 especially the door design. when u close the door on 997 i felt ready tight in there.

997 seat does go down about 10mm lower stock. They all come that way. I have a lot of customers tell me that it is so much bigger than the 996. I drive a 996 and feel tiny in a 997. Seats are more comfy too. Porsche wanted to create an even more comfortable seat than the 996.

Zemdogg:

Sounds as if you are a Porsche salesperson. Have you ordered the X51 package on any cars yet? I had an Oct. allocation and dealer said it wouldn't accept the X51 option so I was moved to Nov. allocation. A guy from FLA I talk with on the boards says he got it on an Oct allocation car. Do you have any info on this option and whether it needs to be Nov. build or later?

TIA.

The 997 interior is awesome and much better than the 996 IMO. One of the main reasons why I didnt go 996 Turbo or C4S was the interior which seemed a bit "low rent" for the $$$

996toomey,

As far as I know I dont beleive it is available yet. It does not show up on any of our current option lists and usually they inform us through their employee website what new options are now available. I would think in the next couple of months. Maybe after January. If I hear or see any more I will let you know. Thanks!
