997.2 SS Brake Lines Upgrade?

Hello - I'm a relatively new member and new Porsche owner.
I was thinking about changing over to SS brake lines when I do a flush, and read somewhere on this forum that any time the brake lines are open to air they need coding through PIWIS?

Why is this so, and if I don't code it what will happen?

Thanks

That doesn't sound right. I've upgrade to SS lines along with turbo calipers on my C2S. Required bleeding as expected. No issues otherwise.

You can activate the abs pumps at each wheel with a Durametric Pro cable and/or PIWIS to assist with bleeding the lines. Not really necessary though. Perhaps this was the reference you saw somewhere?

I don't think that is true. I'm upgrading to a Brembo GT BBK kit next week with SS lines so your post caught me off guard, but I'd double check your source. I'm sure if there was an error code thrown or something that was the result of air stuck in the lines due to a bad flush job, that may require a clear, but just switching out the lines shouldn't require that.

Thanks for the reply - I knew that didn't sound right.
I'll try and find the source and post it here

You may need to cycle the abs if you introduce air at the master cylinder while bleeding the lines. If you are careful when bleeding and do not run the master cylinder dry you will be fine.

Did you do the upgrade yourself? What all did you need to upgrade when you did this? Approx cost, if you don't mind my asking?

Yes I did the work myself. Parts were about $650 per corner, used calipers and rotors, new pads and dampers. The rotors were turned to reuse. Brake pads and SS brake lines were new. I ended up sending the calipers out for powder coating and did brake duct cooling upgrades at the same time for added cost.

The front two corners did need a custom bent brake line from the strut tower to the caliper. Wasn't hard but did require a bending tool from the local auto parts store.

The maintenance manual does make reference to this. I'll try and dig it up.

"Technically, yes. This is what is described in the workshop manual. You'll need PIWIS or Durametric to do it.

However, unless you do a master swap, replaced anything related to ABS or PSM, or had a brake line open to air (i.e. change brake lines) - then you can just bleed as described above."

Here's the post regarding my initial question. I plan on upgrading to ss brake lines (purchased from ecs prior to their sale grrr)
Am I going to run into trouble?
