I went there today ... I got the price down to 2400 bucks . I explained to him that everyone else was at 10 or so hours labor and he quoted 17 hours . They didn't find any metal in oil pan which was a good sign. Really keeping my fingers crossed there's no engine damage and I caught it early . I had no oil leak or crazy noises so I think I'm ok . This whole situation sucks , my car is part of the class action settlement I checked my vin last night on the ims settlement site . It's crazy how I'm only able to be compensated 25% since I bought the car private party .

He obv suggested doing the IMS from LN. Car has been sitting in the garage for a few weeks and today was just the ride to get the oil changed ( about 35 miles ). The car ran fine with no issues at all ...no strange noises or anything like that. 1) Is there any reason I should be concerned that the engine is damaged in any way? 2) The shop quoted me 2800 bucks to do the IMS bearing and also suggested I might as well do clutch for 900 bucks. Is that a good price? Please any advice and info would be greatly appreciated . Thanks
My 2006 C2S turned 37,000 miles today as I drove home from having the oil changed. The shop quoted $2,500 to complete the direct oil feed for my M97 motor with the large bearing (Tiptronic). I have no issues, noises, but would like to know the potential for a problem is gone. My question is would that money be better spent in an extended warranty, down payment on a newer car 2010? I drive the car less than 5,000 miles a year. The oil change that was completed toad was done because a year had passed not even 3,500 miles on old oil. Thanks in advance. Gary, Tampa FL

Being an 06, I would leave it alone as it already has the updated bearing and reports of these going bad aren't anywhere near the earlier versions, if any at all.

Save your money for something else. An extended warranty is an option, but for $2.5k, you'll probably only get 2yrs/24k miles.

How well do you know this shop and its reputation? I'm very cynical when it comes to these kind of emergencies where you're told to spend big bucks or else. Scared customers make for easy prey. Some members of every trade out there is using this practice to some extent. Do you know for a fact that the oil filter you were shown was yours or that the metal wasn't picked up from the shop floor? This cynicism of mine is well founded but that's another story. And of course, disregard this if you have a good relationship with the shop and don't feel trust is an issue.

The direct feed mod was addressed in the past on one of the P forums by a mechanic with aircraft engine experience. He did NOT recommend this as a tack on modification for a 997. The miniscule risk of IMS failure should not be weighing so heavily on your mind. You have the good bearing. Drive it don't mess with it.

I have a 2008 C4S. I just had the RMS and the IMS Bearing done at a Porsche dealer and the cost was under $1500.00. The cost maybe more where you are located but it seems high.

I'm in New York .... Book time for labor is 10 hours and the part is around 800 bucks so there's no way it was done at dealership for 1500 bucks

no what i mean is that on the 06+ you have to split the entire engine apart to swap the bearing. thats a few grand in labour in itself.

I am from Pennsylvania, I have the receipt. Why would I lie? The parts are $436.00 not $800.00

They may have replaced your RMS and just inspected the IMS. For that price, the definitely didn't replace the IMS.

I have read other post that suggest verifying the type of metal that was found to help determine if it is indeed from the IMS.

$1,500 is what was written on my invoice for a RMS repair (under warranty, I didn't pay anything). IMS would require a complete tear down of your engine so I highly doubt if your IMS bearing was replaced.

Where was it done? I have not found a P dealer willing to do the fix in south jersey. I have an appointment from a shop via the pca and the price is no where that close.
