Your engine is the music to your ears. Plus who wants to lug around extra weight with subs imo

gasongasoff is a contender. Redwine702 has a nice install as well. Most find the environment is just too loud and appreciate the engine noise to much to drop $10k into a Mac system into a 911.

That second video was, well, humorous.

Agreed. At freeway speeds (well, limit plus 15 AHEM cough cough), top down, exhaust growling, there's just too much ambient noise for a decent sound system to sound, well, decent. Now, if you're in an area where your top is down a lot due to rain or cold or snow, and you're driving pancake-smooth expressways at 45-50, with the engine lazing at 2000 RPM in 5th, well ...........

Agreed... the 911 is just too noisy at speed to enjoy a good sound system. I feel like anything above 30mph.. and all you hear is road noise.

What are you guys driving in!!??? Any modern Porsche is as quiet as a Mercedes or BMW!
Unless you have an exhaust that is droning out your cabin, you should be able to hear a pin drop. I thought there where some true audiophiles on here as Budget Install had 29 pages of responses! I thought since we have a love for the best cars on the Planet some would have a sound system to go with it. My older 1987 911 has the sound you want to have when your driving, the whine of the air cooled fan and the distinct muffler growl, but in a 997 that sound is not there unless again you have the muffler hack or replacement, and not saying that many times I would like to hear just the car, but also at times a great sound system is a joy as well IMHO especially on long trips.

When is the last time you were in a BMW or MB? My 550 had significantly less road noise and my parents E350 is dam near silent when compared to a 997. I dont mind this as they are different types of cars but I would not say sound supression is a Porsche strongpoint.

Until the 991 came out. Maybe boltpower has a 991 not a 997. Your still connected to the road on a 997, the 991 design effectively reduces the road noise to almost luxury car levels.

His post clearly states he has a 997. My wife's is a cab and the stereo is an afterthought, not much more, especially at cruising speeds. In the SF Bay Area that means limit plus 15!

Ok guys - I get it, I took your beatings!! Just wanted to see if anyone had any pics of their sound system to get some idea's for my build, that I will still pursue.
Mine is a coupe and I think it's quiet enough for a sound system, my wife's BMW 750 is quieter but not by leaps and bounds.

You aren't alone. I am surprised myself about the lack of custom subs.

I agree that the 997 isn't quiet. However, some of us do have the "alleged" ability to filter out the nice engine noise and just listen to music.

My next project will be a building a sub also. Post your progress and I am sure some are also interested.

Thank you cab83, for at least being the only one on my side!!

I thought there were some enthusiast on here , that I read about doing all kinds of mods to their cars, that some would enjoy making their sound system world class. If you see the first video I posted from YouTube, you can clearly see that our cars can be the best sounding in the world!! We have the best sports car of all time, we should have a complete car with a beautiful sounding music system IMHO!!
