Michelin Pilot Super Sport vs Pilot Sport PS2
Hello - I am about to purchase summer tires for my 2009 C4S Coupe, and was going to order the Pilot Super Sports, but Porsche is now recommending the PS2, which is more expensive and has lower custom sat scores: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/CompareTires.jsp
Can someone tell me the difference between these 2 tires, aside from it appears that the PS2 will last longer based on the UTQG score?
Thanks,
Jeff

Just to clarify for the OP, Porsche will only ever recommend tires that have been through their certification process and carry the N rating on the sidewall.
Unless you are trading the car in to a dealer who wants to sell it as a CPO car, it really should not concern you. I've had both, and prefer the PSS.

Unless I'm reading it wrong, the Pilot Super Sport would last longer with a 300 UTQG rating compared to the PS2 at 250 UTQG. I've heard good things about the Super Sport and will probably get them once my OEM tires are worn. Looks like the Super Sport has more tread depth, better wet traction, and quieter ride.

I have the PS2's now and they are soft and quiet, only problem is that, they don't last very long. I've heard good things about PSS and heard they last twice as long so when it's time to replaced them, it's going to be the PSS, it's cheaper too.

Thanks for the responses - Now the next issue - Tire Rack is out of the rear 305's. Anyone know who may have them?

Since she won't be going to the track, I bought conti DWS tires (non-N rated) for my wife's '08 C4. They are so much smoother and quieter than the PS2's they replaced. Should get considerably longer wear, also. Also much less expensive.

When I had PS2s, it was grippier on the track and did well in when the tires heat up. When I got the PSS, they were cheaper, more comfortable, but less grippy when the tires heat up. They squeal less too, so I got less feedback when the car was going to let go versus the PS2s. In addition, PSS are supposed to last longer than PS2s. Everyone running PS2s would have to get new tires in less than a year, so the PSS were a great relief when they came out.
I thought PSS is supposed to replace the PS2s. I see the PSS a good street and track tire that don't wear out too fast.

I found a pair of PSS 305's on a tire web site that I never heard of. Let's hope they show up in the 5 to 7 days they quoted. They said they had 3 tires in stock, when I placed my order for 2, leaving them with 1. Price was comparable to tire rack. Fingers crossed!
