That about radials is true but a few years ago I stopped in Sonora, Texas on the way to Big Bend NP with a nail in the sidewall of a michelin LTX/MS tire. I would have been at least a day waiting on a replacement. The guy there put a patch on it that I drove for another 40K miles without incident. Tires are so good now that it is sometimes even difficult to know when you have a flat.
