Supercharger Install
Supercharger Install
I just installed a VF 510 Supercharger on my 2006 911s. The added HP is definitely noticeable, especially at the higher RPMs. The sounds is much louder. In 1st and 2nd gear you get a bit of an air/exhaust type kick back sound. That sounds goes away as increase the RPMs and you hear the supercharger wind up. I believe I need a new clutch though (it's been going out for awhile) as the power will seem to catch and roll out a bit jumpy. Like the clutch is slipping and then catching. If you have an recommendations on clutches that would be great. I attached one picture. Let me know what you think.
Also, a shout-out to FRC the 6speed user who I bought the kit new from. The kit came as promised with no issues and he helped trouble shoot some problems for me after the sale. Very helpful and nothing but good things to say.

Congrats on your purchase. You will enjoy it for years to come. Make sure you change the S/C gear oil if you haven't done so. I do mine every 3-5000 miles, even if it's overkill.
A good clutch is the SACH's X-51 pressure plate. If you're planning to go with a LWFW, then you will also need a sprung disk to minimize drive line shock.

If you have the V3 Vortech SC, which is part of the more recent VF Kit, it does not rely on the engine oil supply for lubrication, but rather its own lubricants. You know you have this version if you don't have to tap an oil feed line. I suspect you have the older version as you mentioned.
wow !! supercharged !! thats so awsome .. i always wished i could do that to mine but is out of my budget im sure .. so kool good for you !! Enjoy

manual says change the supercharger oil at 2500 miles and then every five. the sc should have two plugs on top on is a dipstick and that's where you pour the sc oil in. it has a release valve at the bottom to drain.
the DIY is an 11 out of 10. I got three quotes from mechanics and they ranged from 30 man hours to 40 man hours. they say it is bolt on but it really isn't. I would not undertake this project unless you are really good, have a ton of tools and have a month or more to set aside.
I bought the kit from FRC who bought it new from VF and never installed it because he wanted a 991 instead. The kit came with the software for the ECU tune but it was not correct. VF was kind enough to do the tune for me. Ship it in and they mapped it and sent it back.
thanks for the help on the clutch. any more suggestions would be great. I never had a clutch replaced on one of these so really don't know where to get them and what to get.

You can get the entire clutch package (Stage 2) that includes pressure plate, LWFW, sprung disk, and release bearing with all the bolts needed from EVOMS or FVD. Or you can just source it out individually like I did from various vendors.

It's been 3 yrs thus far on the VF S/C with trips to redline in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears. No problem yet. But, in theory, any forced induction kit bolted on a N/A engine not designed for F/I will lead to longevity concerns. It's how comfortable you are with this potential issue.
