Check left brake light?

I was just driving and noticed a message that said to "Check left brake light"...is this something I can change on my own? I vaguely remember someone telling me certain German cars (Porsche or BMW) you had to take to the dealership to have simple repairs done due to proprietary tools they use or something?

Should be a very easy fix. I believe it is one or two torx screws. Just open the engine lid and you will see them. I think the non-led lights take two bulbs. Both are different.

You can change the bulb yourself with ease. Don't get raped at the dealer

Before you replace anything, do check it first. Over the years I have gotten several "check lights" messages. When I checked they were fine. Can a car have a sense of humor?

good time to upgrade to the silver coated bulbs and lose the amber (while you have the light housing out)

I've changed the brake light bulb and it still doesn't work. Is there any other thing I'm supposed to do? The bulb was the exact same when I bought it and it fit in perfectly with no problems.

Check further,I think one brake light is controlled by the brake switch at the pedal, and the other by the can module. Could be wrong though.

I'm not quite sure what else to check. Even the manual only has three steps to it -- doesn't say anything else other than to take the old one out and put the new one in.

Try swapping the wiring harnesses (right to left, left to right)...you might be able to determine if that's where the problem is.
