Noob question (sport mode)
Bought my 2011 Carrera S yesterday and wow it's a blast to drive ! ( my 1st Porsche) Anyway, today I discovered the sport mode button and I really like the exhaust sound much more with sport mode on. Question is: is there any downside or anything bad about driving with sport mode on ALL of the time?
I have an 07 C2S and I noticed my gas consumption increases a little in sports mode. I drive with sport mode on 80% of the time. I just wish there's a way to make it the default setting when you start the car.

From what I've seen many of us drive with Sport turned on all of the time. For me that's likely 98% or better in my PDK. With my prior manual, I ended up deciding to do it 100% of the time or it threw off my slipping of the clutch off the line. If I was accidentally out of Sport, my subconscious brain would forget that I had slower throttle response and would bog the engine sometimes. Everything was much more repeatable with Sport always on.

And I've been driving manual cars for 18 years. Still can't seem to get used to the throttle response of Sport. But I do love the sound!
My wife's car is a 2011 Carrera S Cabriolet. She NEVER uses the sport mode, as it is her DD and she prefers a little more ground clearance (so as not to wreck the spoiler; we have those V-shaped divots at intersections in our neighborhood for water dispersal) and comfort. On joyrides I use the S-mode but only on smooth roads. I find it choppy on bad/poorly maintained roads. Fortunately it's just a push of a button so easy to toggle back & forth if necessary.

Sorry, was confusing sport with PASM, which lowers the car 10 centimeters. I usually use "sport" mode and PASM simultaneously. Quite a different car with both buttons pushed (hers is a 6-speed M).
Just to make sure there is no confusion (there is sometimes). Cars with PASM always sit 10mm shorter, regardless of whether it is enabled or not. It does not lower the car when pushed, it only firms up the dampers.

mm not cm and I think it's 20mm...at least it is on the GTS.
Oops, edited. It is only 10mm for PASM, 20mm if you get the Sport Suspension option in addition to PASM, which I assume the GTS includes. Gotta love those GTS's!
