I looked into the 996TT but settled on the 997S. Well ballanced is a great way to sum up my decision - better exterior, better interior, good resale, great engine and overall superb car!

Perhaps this is why some of us kept increasing the H.P. on these cars; getting more power, getting used to it, and then wanting more power in hopes of being excited again and so on. You gotta get what excites you; for me, it is the 997S.
Very VERY WELL said... props to you my friend!

There is much talk going around about how the prices of the 996 TTs will drop when, and if the 997 TT ever shows up for sale. My local P dealer has several TTs in the showroom. They have one that lists for $148,000.00 and one thats 154,000.00. When you see those numbers on paper they are kinda scary. Anyway the 148,000 is a Mexico blue. When I first saw it I thought it was one of the ugliest cars I had ever seen. However, the old saying"... the girls all get prettier at closing time", has taken control of me! I woke up this morning thinking about that damn car (and my neighbor next door ) I'm really tempted to see how much I could buy the car for. What do you folks think? By the way it is a turbo S.

I am biased because I believe in what I say. My car is not the BEST not even close but it would spank the crap out of your 997 in a straigt line, on the track or anywhere else. My car not only has power but also the suspension and brakes to deal with that power.

Now saying all that I do like the 997, but for me I would want to add more power, better suspension, etc... Stock for stock I would pick the 996 tt everytime.

Doc,

I would not buy the car if I was you. First of all, the 996tt is an "older" design and you will get tired of it quickly, especially when the 997tt comes out. If you want the turbo, and are willing to pay that kind of money, get on the list for the 997tt(which I have) and savour the wait! Believe me, you will most likely regret buying the 996tt(espicially at that price) and you will end up with a serious case of buyer's remorse.

If you have to get a 996tt, get a good earlier model like 2002 or 2003. This way, if you get tired of it you can bail out without taking too much of a hit.

I don't, and it's not even close.

The steering on the 997S is numb on-center (the variable steering rack design), and personally it was overall a boring drive compared to a 996 Turbo.

The looks of a car are obviously a personal thing, and the interior of the 997S is just a total bust with me...I don't care much for the exterior either.

The Turbo has a HUGE advantage in terms of modification potential. In fact, it can be modified to fit almost any driver's "target" in terms of acceleration and turning performance.

hahah...if you're get 'bored' with the power of the 996tt, I can only imagine the buyers remorse, when the price on the 997 (whatever variation it may be) drops through the floor, and into the basement in about a year. The 997 is one of the smallest revisions that porsche has ever done to the 911. The difference between the 996 N/A and the 993 N/A was staggering...and now you can pick one up for about 25 grand.

Everyone talks about how all the tt guys hate on the 997 guys, but what about the other way around. If I wanted a completely refined daily driver, I wouldn't buy a friggin porsche. I'd get a sl55 or something like that. I've driven the 997, and it's a great car, but it'll never put a smile on my face the way 520 horses does when it yanks me down the highway in 4th or 5th gear.

Oh by the way...not to mention it looks like a volkswagen bug in the front. I thought it was bad when porsche charged me 83 grand for my 00 911 c2, but 100 grand for a porsche that has the same amount of horspower (roughly) as a 55k m3? If you're really into the 997, wait a year and pick one up for 60 grand.
